Does anyone else besides me find what happened yesterday with gas absolutely hiliarous? Heres why. Every one was expecting high prices but then the rumor started that we were out of gas (classic american society) which spread like wildfire through water cooler talk and email forwards (read that in the AJC) and the rumor was then twisted to things like the gas stations are closing today or from the AJC article, the rumor about state police closing all gas stations at 4pm yesterday. (once again classic america). Anyways now everyone in GA thinks we are out of gas and that gas is gunna cost a lot, so what do we do. We all go try to fill up on gas all at once of course. Which creates demand and the price goes up (my econ professor was livid about yesterday). And with every body buying gas we made the gas disappear. So what did the GA public do on its own yesterday, jack the price of gas up to over $3.00 a gallon and in turn drain almost every gas station to create a shortage. Although not really because our fearless leader (Mr. Purdue of course) said that yea gas is gunna be a little bit more, but we sure the heck arent running out, cause its still coming through the pipelines. I loved how he called it an embarassment to our state (which it is). So good job GA on jacking the gas up. Had we say acted like normal sane people instead of say crazed idiots( the people in the ATL that were pulling guns on each other) and bought gas like normal gas would gone up a few cents the next couple of days, not a couple of dollars over a few hours. And watch over the next few days gas will be back down because no one wants to buy gas cause you all have it in your tanks. Gotta love America!

Not really on your topic exactly, BUT, you mention the rumors...there was one going around my workplace that said that a shark had gotten loose from the zoo in New Orleans and was going around eating the bodies floating around town. Another was about a group of convicts that had taken a warden and his family hostage.
Now, please understand, if that stuff really happened...I will certainly feel silly for poo-pooing the stories..but give me a break. A shark?

I actually got caught in the whole fiasco because as luck would have it, I actually needed gas yesterday. I was proud of the gas station where I frequently go because their price remained $2.59. He could have raised prices but said he didn't pay any more for it so he wasn't charging more for it. Even this morning when my mom stopped (also needed gas at the wrong time) he was still charging $2.59. At least one businessman that wasn't trying to take advantage.

Wow, that's rare. Almost every place around here was $2.89 to $2.99. I too needed gas. I ended up filling 3/4ths of my tank with the $2.99 cause of all the lines at the stations closer to the house. I couldn't believe all the cars lined up to get gas at 10 stations within a few miles of the house.

Unfortunately, part of the gas rumors were true. I do audits for one of the major players and I was in several of thier locations downtown and on Roswell Rd outside 285 and watched them run out of gas (or be out of gas when I got there). They were being told by their dispatchers that there would be no deliveries until Sunday because there was none to deliver.
The hilarious parts of this was played out at several locations. I personally saw 5 fender benders as people tried to cut in line to get gas, heard words and names my Navy drill instructors wouldn't have used from little old ladies and saw several verbal altercations between people over the silliest of things. I actually cut my work day short because I couldn't get into the stations to do my job (and was afraid someone was gonna shoot me by accident).
The flip side - most stations had gas today and I only saw a few lines. Some of the independents have taken advantage of the situation and raised the prices - it will just hurt them in the long run because I for one will never go back there to them and I know other people who feel the same way.
But, as Nasty pointed out - here's your wakeup call if you have ignored all the others... what you do now and how you handle it is up to you.
I saw a snowflake tonight. I think it may be a blizzard tomorrow and they will cancel school. Oh, and the stores are gonna be outta food soon since the trucks have no gas to bring more food.
