Anybody have a recipe for 'Cooking Pears'? (THe hard ones). I've got a tree that is LOADED, and hate to see them rot on the ground, as they have the past few years.
Anybody want some? |

Phat,
I have a recipe for Pear Mincemeat if you want it. It has several ingredients, but the finished product can be served over pound cake or ice cream, with poultry or pork, or used to stuff baked apples. Let me know it you want the recipe - otherwise, I'll keep looking. Do you want to can or freeze them instead? This message has been edited. Last edited by: geomuse, Cache, responsibly..... |

I like pear preserves and mincemeat, however I also like this and I think you will also.
Pear Relish Take the pears, peel and quarter. Remove the core. Put in a food processor or sausage grinder and pulverize. Get some sweet peppers , some hot peppers and some onions. Grind them up also. I used a couple of habeneros last time and got in some trouble. Be careful in cleaning up, I didn’t. If you have a lot of hot peppers, wear latex gloves. Put them all together with some water and bring to a rolling boil. Drain. Put the mix in a solution of vinegar, brown sugar, cloves (if you like them). Bring to a boil. This is important. Again, if you are using some volitile-hot peppers, have a good breeze through the kitchen! Meanwhile sterilize some jars, rings and tops. Put the relish in the small jars and seal. Put in boxes and give them as gifts or whatever. I didn’t mention ratios or proportions etc. I know you are an accomplished cook and will be able to custom make it according to your tastes. This relish will turn a hot dog or a mess of collard greens into something akin to a religious experience. that which does not destroy you, makes you stronger - nietszche |
