Anyone here have Tivo?
If so did you pay the $300 up front for service or do you pay $13 a month for it? I am thinking about getting a Tivo now that they have a $150 rebate on them and since I work at Best Buy after discount it costs just as much as a DVD. But to get the rebate you have to prepay 1 yr of service and I was wondering should just go 1 year or go ahead and pay for it all. (2yrs of service paid monthly is $310, Liftime service is $300). Im kinda sketch on the $300 because I keept reading all the stuff on http://www.engadget.com about Tivo going under, so Id hate to pay and then Tivo close its doors. Any advice? I do.
Mine is a Hughes Series 1 DirecTV dual tuner unit. I've had it like 4 years now. I only pay $4.99 a month since I have service with DirecTV. I did get an annual contract back then, but like a said, a long time ago. Unless you plan on doing HD content, don't worry about Tivo going under. They actually just made their first profit recently. DirecTV is still selling Tivo units, so I think it will be a few years before they are in any kind of trouble. They are simply the best interface for use. If you are a techie type and don't have other family members to worry about, you might look into Microsoft Media Center PCs. I hear they are great if you dont have a big screen and watch alot of content off the web. Kenneth |
