I have heard about this site http://www.101101000.com/ several times in the past. But today it gmae up again on joystiq.com because the counter on the site reset and a refrig magnet game popped up. http://www.101101000.com/0 You can type a word in the field and it pops on the screen. Other people are there two, its quite entertaining.
Anyways on the site. As all you binary folks that number is 360. When you go to the site there are two columns of numbers in binary with colored dots next to them. They occasionally blink. There is also a countdown timer under the globe. No one knows what it is counting down to its at roughly 279,000 when I post this. There is also a text entry field under the countdown. By entering various words and numbers you can change the appearance of the globe. Sometimes it gives you a color dot and text back. Some times it just please try again.
No one really knows whats going on here, but many think its something from Microsoft concerning the XBOX 360, but know really knows.
Oh yeah some sample words to change the globe appearance:
microsoft xbox 360
bungie
halo3
halo 4
ps3
ilovebugs

Can any of puzzle solvers figure out whats going on here?

It certainly recognizes "microsoft" so is possibly related to the XBox.

Just got around to looking at this.
Definitely looks like something related to XBox 360 as the globe is showing part of the X made to look like it is cut into the globe.

First thing I thought to do is view the source of the page for any clues.
Not much there.

So I go to see who the 101101000.com is registered to.
The WhoIS record looks like this:
quote:

Registrant:
Domains by Proxy, Inc.

Domain servers in listed order:
NS.101101000.COM
NS2.101101000.COM

So whoever is doing this does not want somebody to figure out who they are.
Seems DomainsByProxy is a company specifically setup to hide the registrants of domains.

I'm gonna poke around some more and see what's up.
I mean the XBox360 has already been released, so it is interesting what they are counting down to.

Well a Google search gives alot of forums talking about it, but everyone seems to stop and just dropping it.
I don't think I'm gonna spend more time on it.

KP,
I also ran the whois search and even tried to look at the source code. It was java ridden through out. I was looking for something dealing with the text entry field but didnt want to fiddle with java.
I have given up also.
I plan on checking on it every so often to see what the counter says.
Thanks for taking to time to help guys! Smile

EDIT: It seems as though all the original triggers no longer change the globe , but instead it says access denied.

Someone said in one of the forums I found that it was counting down 1.5 secs down to Nov 22nd, which was the release day of the XBox360.
So maybe it is over. Not sure why the globe didn't spin on around though.
Guess it is worth watching from time to time.

KP, I heard that also. Im just curious as to what the new counter is for. Like I said early the counter read 290,000 when converted to decimal, not its at 147,000.
Tha heck if I know.

Interesting. I was hoping it would change again when I entered Apple, Mac, or Macintosh; but no luck.
Must be a MicroSux thingy, cause it changes if you put in 'Bill Gates'.

My guess is that the orb will be fully visible after the world wide launch of the XBOX 360 is complete. The symbol is partially visible since the US launch has taken place. More should be visible after the UK launch if my theory is correct.

Mine doesn't, using Safari on the Mac. The numbers 1 & 0 stay thesame, but the globe turns solid white with a MicroSux logo embellished on it. (The countdown clock also stops dead).

For me tonight

a lot of phrases with "love" (every one that I tried) in them gives you a heart

"halo" puts a halo around it
"play" got me to the "live message board"
"lol" gets a smile
"PS3" gets a big red circle
"Microsoft" get the M$ window on the sphere
"ants" or "colony" gets ants

hmmm ... I just typed in 'ants' and got a single green 0 floating around the world with a grid ... BUT below the text entry box, the numbers '666' appeared with a green dot.
I'm not playing anymore.

Rumor is once you type some thing the system accepts, every you type in, appears on someone else's browser below the text box. So someelse type the "666". It is also remored that it does have a smut filter, but as everyone knows there isn't a perfect smut filter.

not sure if this is still a topic being looked at, but if you type in hallo (mispelled "halo") you will get a pumpkin... Actually a jack-o-lantern...
