I am working on my new Trezure Coin and tried to use coinsforanything as my vendor.

I sent them the art work I want to use and they ask for $135.00 to show good faith and quoted me a price of $2.10 per coin for 300 coins.

When I went to place the order they upped the price to $2.45 per coin and added a fee of $100.00 for shipping.

When I called to complain the answer I got was I could cancel my order but loose the $135.00 because to the time they had spend working on the art.

I would highly suggest that you not use these guys if you plan on ordering any coins as they have proved to be untruthful in there business practices.

So my dilemma now is do I just walk away from $135.00 an feel good that I did not do business with them or pay the pirates their blood money and chalk it up to a lesson learned?

Did you speak with the owner? ...or just customer-no-service?

Trez,
Was the quote verbal or email? If you've got something through email, perhaps you can use that to make them honor their quote. I know it's hard to walk away from $135, but given they've increased the price of the coins AND asked for additional $100 in shipping I would say forget it. What's the old saying, "Don't throw good money after bad."

What happens if they end up doing a crappy job on your coins? If they are not trustworthy, then their skill may also be suspect.

I would raise Holy Hell with them and if they didn't budge, then report them to the Better Business Bureau and post how they treated you on as many forums as possible to get the word out about them.

I spoke to Lisa the office manager with no resolution. Copied the owner Jeff on the emails but he did not respond.
Their quote was followed up with and invoice which I paid in full but they will not honor the price on THEIR invoice.

They said they would refund all but $135.00 of what I have paid.

This is a classic "bait and Switch" con

That’s a tough call. Seems like you’re going to lose at least the $135 no matter what you do – either they keep your nonrefundable deposit or they get you with the additional coin charge and shipping fee. On the other hand, if you go to another vendor, will you be able to get the same price (ignoring the $135)?

However, if you decide you’re truly willing to walk away and lose the $135 you might be able to use that as a last ditch bargaining chip. Tell them unless they honor their original quote, they’ve lost your business and you’ll be posting your experience on the geocaching forums for others to see. It might not make any difference to them but you never know.

Posting information about a vendor in the Internet can sometimes make a impact on them. See this blog PriceRitePhoto: Abusive Bait and Switch Camera Store.

Well since my post Atlanta Gal has come to my rescue and called the owner on my behalf. He has agreed to honor the invoice price given me and a apology for the mix up.

I want to hire Atlanta Gal to handle all my disputes... She Has CLOUT.

Thanks AG

It's hard to imagine it costing $100 for shipping in any case.

2-day fedex from china on a box weighing a lot... maybe 80lbs for 300 coins... I can see it.

I shipped a 15lb surfboard to Germany via UPS 2-day international service for $200 once. Of course it was oversized and insured as a collectible. I also didn't have a merchant contract with the shipper.

Even still, I can see it being in the ballpark for 300 coins.
