Recovering Geocacher![]() |
Here's a sad series of photos...
Family headed for a day at the lake in their old VW Beetle. Nut comes off one of the rear axles; resulting in the brake drum/wheel/tire assembly coming off. Car falls to the ground with no room to put a jack under it. How to lift it up? Glad the 1973 Land Rover could help it's 1973 German friend. Photos shot along Hwy 52 just east of Chattsworth on the long uphill towards Fort Mtn. State Park. ~erik~ |

I know that exact stretch of road. Not a pretty place to break down. I can only imagine how grateful they were that the Rover and its occupants came along!
Cache, responsibly..... |

The rust colored VW was in front driving up the hill, with the dark blue one behind it. The folks in the blue VW saw the nut come off the axle, and later hiked about a half mile down the mountain looking for the darn thing.
They never found it, but hopefully these folks were able to later find a replacement at an auto parts store in Chattsworth. We left once they managed to get their VW jack to hold up the left rear corner of the car. Maybe someday they'll stop to help us if we're broken down on the side of the road. ~erik~ |
