Hopefully the weather will hold for this one. It is a full lunar eclipse. This should be a treat.

Maybe it will be easier to view out here in Marietta. I know when I was in Vinings, there were just too many lights from the city to really enjoy any solar happenings.

Hopefully these clouds will burn off by the end of the day.

Well, I watched and watched as the eclipse evolved. Then, MINUTES before the full eclipse, the entire sky was covered with a giant cloud.
I was taking some pictures, yet missed the main event. Darn it! |

Wow. Over in our part of Gwinnett it was the opposite. Cloudy, cloudy, cloudy...and then just as everything started to happen...clear skies. Had fun lying down in the driveway watching the sky. Reminded me alot of all the times I used to do the same thing as a kid in my backyard at night....staring off into the sky.

Too much cloud cover here to see it at 10, but my friend in OH took photos and sent them to me.

It was awesome out in Powder Springs in my dark cul-de-sac...I guess I won't complain about my streetlight being out anymore!
The best was around 10:25ish. Cool color of red! |

It was indeed beautiful in Powder Springs...
The middle images are shot for 8 seconds at f4.0 ranging from an estimated digital ASA of 100 to 400. The others are 1/15 of a second at f4.0 and an estimated digital ASA of 100. I may try to work on the 400 ASA 8 second shots to bring the stars out more. These are raw images cropped to size. Pretty awesome! |

Very well done pix, MM! Any way to say they were shot on the way to an night cache so they are calendar candidates?

Awesome pics, mtn-man!
Question: What's the green dot in the third pic? Obvious answer is a "star", but it looks HUGE. Could it be a refraction-reflection of the ISS? |

The moon actually moves slower than the stars in the background. Stars do "twinkle" because of the atmosphere, of course. I think that star had a bright twinkle during the shot. It is there in the shot below that one, but with the other stars becoming more prominent with the ASA going to 400 it tends to blend in more. If you look closely at picture 4 you can see the three stars from picture 3. Those were taken at about the same time. The stars in the other pictures change position because the moon is moving against the field of stars behind it.

It was a good view down in Savannah.
When me and my room mates returned from dinner, our neighbors were straing out the breezeway and then duh the eclipse. I took some pictures with a shutter speed of 10seconds but because i didnt have a tripod it was a ginat blur. When totality began nearly one in the dorms every came ou tand watched. Pretty neat. I wish we could have another solar eclipse. Those are the best! Happy Hunting! -Amazingracer It's about who controls the information Marty! |

I was in Los Angeles that day. We were able to see it when it was about 1/4 past totality.
