My wife Terrie has wanted to pet a giraffe for a long time. I saw a commercial for
Animal Safari in Pine Mountain. It shows pictures of someone feeding the giraffes and has a disclaimer about not recommending feeding by hand, but nothing about forbidding it.

Has anyone ever been there, and if so could you share your experience? do's and dont's?

I have never been there, but I think Moby the former DJ of Z93 visited there. I know he visited some zoo up here. Here is his web page http://www.mobyinthemorning.com/animals1.htm with pictures.

Couple of warnings, who ever built the webpages doesn't know how to shrink picture files, so they will take while to load if you are on a modem. When the web page says "Definitely not for the squeamish!" it is telling the truth.

My wife and I go there a couple of times a year, it's a fun place. We discovered it back when my wife was working in La Grange.

It's basically a drive-through zoo. They do sell animal food, and hand-feeding of all animals is allowed EXCEPT for equines (horses, zebras). (Those of you who know horses know why ... for those that don't, horse-like animals have VERY delicate digestion. They can be crippled for life or even killed if they're overfed, or fed something richer than the feed to which they're accustomed, even ONCE!)

There are a lot of diverse animals there. Ostriches and Emus wander around most everywhere, and will crane their heads into your car windows looking for food. Zebras abound. There were two giraffes last time I was there ... they're kept in a paddock, presumably because it's too dangerous to have them walking around too near the cars.

Anyway, the place is quite an experience, I'd highly recommend it!

There is always Noah's Ark just outside of Locust Grove.
They have tons of animals - lions, tigers and Bears...Oh My!

It runs on donations and is a pretty cool place to visit.

Hmmm...the giraffes are paddocked?
Seems like false advertising.
The main picture on the site shows it right at the tour bus/van.

Still sounds like fun, but Terrie really wants to pet a giraffe.

Funny, but true, story about Noah's Ark.

2 years ago the teachers at Locust Grove Elementary School spotted a cougar in their recreation area. They called Noah's Ark to let them know where to come to get their escapee.

It wasn't Noah's Ark's cougar as their's was accounted for. It was a wild one.

Y'all be careful out there!

See ya on the hunt!

Nope, they are not fake.
My mother-in-law sent me the same link back when it happened (she is a Moby follower).
He posted on his website that they all healed up and nothing left but scars. He said even John Wayne doesn't have scars like that (at least he's optimistic).

You can still pet the giraffes, if they're in the mood to be petted/fed. The road runs very close to the paddock fence, and they're not at all afraid to stretch out those long necks.

They may not always be confined to the paddock, I just remember generally seeing them in there ... others have told me they've seen the tall boys roaming free, so what do I know Smile
