I'm thinking about getting a T-Mobile Sidekick.
Does anyone have one or know someone with one? Do you (they) like it? Is the internet browser any good? Thanks! |

I have seen two reviews on TV, one on TechTV and I forget where the other was. One of the things that both reviewers noticed about the Sidekick was that it seems far less sensitive than conventional phones. In areas where they were able to make crystal-clear calls with a more conventional Nokia phone, the Sidekick was saying "No Service" or breaking up badly. Its receiver is apparently quite deaf. This was a few months back, so new models might have that problem corrected, but it's something to watch for.

I don't know anyone one with a Sidekick. But a google search finds lots of reviews. A quick glance seems to show most of them are favorable.
However I know a couple of people with Treo 600 and they are happy with it. ----- Some of those that wander are lost! |

I know several people with Sidekicks, and they all tend to be fanatical about it. It does a pretty good job of handling web browsing. The landscape orientation and size of the screen lets it handle it better than most similar devices. The jog dial makes scrolling very easy. It also has the largest keyboard of any of the current portables.
If you're looking for an all-in-one device that combines phone, internet, email, web and PDA type functions, at this moment the two most logical choices are Sidekick or the Handspring Treo 600. Tmobile carries both. Here's a pretty good comparison of both: http://www.hiptop.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11023 |

Well, I got my Sidekick a couple of months ago. I was waiting until I had time to travel around with it before posting about it.
I LOVE IT!! T-Mobile has upgraded the phone/pda & addressed most of the problems in earlier versions. Future upgrades are sent wirelessly to the phone. It has an appointment calendar that alerts me before the appointment, a place to take notes, direct access to my AOL mail and AIM, a camera that attaches instead of being built in (some places don't allow camera phones) and more! The desktop interface does not connect to the phone with a cable. I simply type my data (notes, addresses, etc) into the web site & it is transmitted to the phone (no special driver or attachment). So I can use any computer with internet access. The web browser is great! I can log a cache or search for new cache listings anywhere I have a phone signal. Well almost, I have discovered that if the signal is from a Suncom tower, I don't have internet access. It does not have the ability to download web pages for offline viewing.
