Hey Amazingracer, tell us how your walk on the AT went. Did you encounter any bears? Find any caches along the way? Any humorous anecdotes to tell?

It was a great trip. No bears or any wildlife (beisdes squirrels) excpet for a snake we past along the side of the trail. We met nearly 40 people! About 10 of them were thru-hikers and everyone else was doing 100+ miles compared to our mesely 40. We stayed in or around the shelter(in tents) so two nights we had to hang our own bear bags and the other two shelters had these really nice bear cables, where all you had to do was clip your bag and hoist. We did meet an interesting guy at the Plumorchard Gap Shelter which was our last night. He had been living at the shelter for nearly a week. He was carrying 90lbs of gear, abt 20 was ramen noodles. We had heard about this guy earlier in the week from some other hikers. He was reportedly got a calling from God to go live around Clingmas Dome for about two months. It turns out he really is headed to the dome to live illegally in the Smokies for two months. He is travelling very slowly, it took one month to get from springer to Plumorchard (less than 100mi).
At the shelters they had registers (I kept calling them log books and the other kiers kept correcting me), and it was funny to read of the peoples adventures on the trails. they all had trail names like we have geonicks and they told very amusing stories like our logs.
We also met a guy headed to Va who wanted to know how long eggs, steaks, and chicken would last on the trail. This was a guy who we found out later had bought 5 wendys burger in Helen and had been eating them for a week.
Overall it was a great trip, but I dont recommend that section we did to anybody. Rock gap to dicks creek gap.
Oh and as we were getting to our car on the last day we started talkin to people in the parking lot and told we just did 40 miles and they were like oh so you did that in about 2 days, we laughed as we told them 5!
