Got this from my Dad:

Here's a mind-bender for all those who have nothing to do.

The other day I went to pick up the new car after it was repaired following the accident.
On the wall of the Repair Shop was a very old map of the United States (in color).
I looked at it for a few minutes and asked the guy in charge if he knew why some states were shaded a darker blue when most states were very light blue. He did not know but said I was the second person who had asked him that.

The "shaded" states were: New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Missouri, Louisiana, Nebraska, Arizona and Idaho. I have tried many times to think what was the common denominator about such a diverse group of states. I don't have a clue.

Then three other states were shaded a different color: Oregon, South Dakota and Colorado.

What in the world do New Hampshire and Arizona have in common? Or what about Louisiana and Idaho?

Strange stuff, eh?

Without knowing the date, kinda hard to say - unless it was just a totally random thing.

Perhaps a breakdown of "Dem vs. Rep vs. Ind/Other" govenors at the time or something? If the shadings mean anything, I'd tend to think they'd have a political meaning of some sort.

I was thinking along the same lines as Cymbaline, regrding political divisions or something of that sort. It may also be a map of locations/states that the repair shop chain has a market presence.

I took a small map and highlighted it just to see if I could figure out any correlation, but the only thing that came to mind was states that had missile silos (Dad was in the missile program), but I don't think that holds true for the easternmost of the states, and it leaves gaps in states that DO have them.

Maybe it's states that the owner wants to go caching in some day? Smile
