We are setting up a wireless network in our dorm room. I ahve set the router up to connect to the Armstrong network, and I can connect to the internet fine using the LAN wire through the router. However when I try to connect to the router via wireless on the laptop, it will connect to the router but the router will not give my computer an IP address. When I connect via a LAN cable to the router it gives me an IP address no hassle. The router just simply doesnt give an address. It "connects" but no Ip.
Any ideas? The router is a Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router.

Are you using any WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol)? The router and the wireless network card has to be using the same security protocol in order to make a connection. That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head.

The router is acting as a DHCP server. On my Linksys router you can specify how many DHCP addresses it will allow. Make sure the the DHCP server is turned on and you have specify enough addresses in the DHCP pool.

Well Ill be. It was the DHCP. Some where on the internet we read that we should turn off DHCP. However I turned it on upped the ip address and voila!
However on a related note which is more secure: WEP or WPA?

Well no that didnt work. well it did for a while, but wehn i turned off Wireless and turned it back on. Same thing, it wont give me an IP address. However now the laptop cant even get to the part of the wireless connection where it gets the IP.
Yoyo can you email exactly what you did for your network.
Also are your IP address manually configured or auto?

I just popped you an e-mail with some info that hopefully will help. One other thing I forgot to mention is make sure that the ESSID & Channel are the same on the router & wireless card configuration.

Let me know how everything works out.
