Ok...I ran across this website on making fire with a soda can and some chocolate.
I was like...no way!

You be the judge.
Can of Coke and A Chocolate Bar

Kenneth

P.s. Would be a neat topic for a meeting if someone can actually make one.

I will be trying this! My first thought is that it should work. My second thought is it would be a good way to start a fire in an emergency provided you had a coke can(that's southern for soda)and some chocolet or toothpaste. My third thought is why wouldn't you have a match if you planned well enough in advance to bring candy and coke? I guess I am of the old school. It has been many years since I smoked, but still carry my Zippo and a pocket knife. Even to church. Look out for a thread in the near future. I am doing some experiments letting water in plastic bottles freeze. The results are interesting and will have some use.

I think a geo-event to demonstrate this technique would be something I'd attend!!

Maybe I should stopping picking up all those old soda cans I find in the woods. I'd feel badly if someone froze to death holding a bar of chocolate in his hand 'cause he didn't have the other ingredient for making a fire.

I keep trying to make fire with some of my home-made shine ... but every time I hit it with the magnifying glass, it blows up?!

Heck, I'll just drink it to stay warm.

Do we have any fire starters in house?
If so would you like to demonstrate your skills at the May GGA meeting? Just chime in here and let us know. Flint, rubing sticks together, thing like that.

Well as you have seen I can use a Magnesium Firestarting Tool to start a fire as long as I have the right "tinder". However I don't think I will be crossing the state for the May meeting.

Maybe we can ask McGyver...he seemed to always get into trouble without stuff, so he made up stuff like gum and fertilizer for explosives. Big Grin

Ohhhh...Erik...always looking out for the incredibly lost and destined to be frozen. Wish you had as much pity for those hunting your caches. Crying

The Pepsi Can stove has been on my "todo list" for over a year now. But I haven't been able to get a round tuit.

More DIY's for fun:

HomeMade Ginger Ale

HomeMade Root Beer

Maybe we should have a DIY topic at a GGA meeting?

Polishing is right up my alley. That's what I do for my job. Polish the molds that make plastic bottles. Mirror finishes on both aluminum and stainless steel.

Bumping this one up as someone asked about it at the last meeting.

Would be neat to see for the bonfire meeting this fall.

Along the lines of making fire with non-standard items:
Fire From Ice #1
Be sure to check out all three pages as the final is the best.
Really neat.

My family had the concensus that the guy has way too much time on his hands and must have no friends or family.

I thought it was neat that he could devote the time to do this without being pulled away by the demands of friends and family. Wink
