I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post this, or if there is any place on our sites to post this, but here goes anyway. This is not a geocaching topic, but it relates to a geocaching location so hopefully you will indulge me with this forum as a release of sorts. I had the privilege and honor or whatever you may want to call it to attend a ceremony today at a site that has for a long time been a special place for me having grown up not far from it. I say privilege and honor, but I would have traded almost anything for the occasion of it having not have had to take place. I go there more frequently than you could ever imagine. Believe it or not, a lot of people in this part of Georgia do the same. I was last there on Memorial Day morning to keep a promise to a nineteen and twenty-one year old who died 140 years ago. A Catholic Mass was ending while I stood there beside them and the recessional was The Battle Hymn of the Republic sounding from across the acres. Hopefully each of you can one day make your way here on Memorial Day to experience what I felt. Today was my first time in all these years in having walked there, stood there, and just wondered there that I have watched a full Marine ceremony there that fired their weapons twenty-one times........ the first time that I have stood there to listen to the haunting sounds of the Marine bugler over the sacred acres. He was not active duty, but he was still a young man who more than served his country.... really still a boy to me. He was the son in law of a former secretary of mine; the nephew of one of my present secretaries; and the son of one of my closest friends. The circumstances of his death were as sudden and tragic as you could imagine. If you have the opportunity, visit GCGMJY, say a prayer for Rob, and all the others that are there for us.
