This is copy and paste from a conservative publication I came across as I googled “oil company profits”. GollyGeeWilkers, guys, thanks a bunch! We dummies need some smart guys like you to do things for our own protection. When we immature children clamor for more cake and candy, you just up the cost!
Actually I tend to agree with the article, however an oil company’s altruism is indeed suspect. These businesses are all about profit and your well being is meaningless unless you cease to be a consumer. Why is gasoline cheaper in NE GA? Because there is a smaller ratio of damnfools up there than in the big city. Here is a typical metro dweller. 1. Stop at the service station in a leased monster-mega 2000 hp hawg with great shiny hubcaps that continue to turn after it stops, with one person inside. Gas credit card is maxed out, so give the attendant a five dollar bill and pump. 2. Pull out in traffic tailgating the small economy car until he pulls over at the first chance, flip the bird, romp on the gas. 3.Stop at the next stop light. Put the pedal to the metal when it turns green to tailgate the small economy car which passed at the traffic light. Repeat steps 1 to 3.
We have met the enemy and he is us. Pogo
You mentioned a copy/paste. Where is it? I'd like to read, please. I agree with you for the most part, but I'd like to read the original without the racist/bigotist slant. Thanks.

http://www.nationalreview.com/nrof_comment/tamny200511010853.aspsame article summation: Returning to the political response in Washington, leaders on both sides of the aisle will hopefully realize that they’re on the wrong side of the oil issue. Rather than calling oil executives to the carpet when they’re making “too” much money, they should instead celebrate the ability of markets to apportion investment properly such that scarcity is dealt with effectively. my comments: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!

The politicians are always ready to jump on some business that has a good year, often with proposals to tax the "excess profits" and do wonderful things with the money. If you believe that is a good idea, then you are a bigger fool that those who believe the "excess profits" are somehow good for all of us. In a year when the economy is booming and tax collections are way up, have you ever heard a politician use the term "excess tax revenues" ?? Nah.
But this whole gasoline thing will go away soon, as prices at the pump come back down. A bigger problem in the long term is the cost of natural gas, heating oil, and eventually, electricity. But the politicians will wait until there is a crisis before posturing on these issues. Oh well.

Many stations here in Macon are at $1.89. I saw on georgiagasprices.com the other day a place in Brunswick had $1.79. Happy Hunting! -Amazingracer It's about who controls the information Marty!

I remember when I first turned 16 and got a car and was like $22 to fill up are you kidding me. And then this past September $48 to fill up are you kidding. It was funny early this year thinking $2.00 thats outragous for gas now its a welcome relief to some people. Heck in at the end of July when I went to Daytona beach we took pictures of the 2.49 gas in JAX, thinking we would never see that anywhere, little did we know... Im glad its coming back down and still does steadily. But Im planning for it to be back up in the summer, and have planned my life according, heck when I move to Atlanta next year the number factor in looking for apartments is how close it is to a Marta Station. Gasoline prices got a lot of attention lately, but when I put it in perspective its not so bad. I can drive my little car (Miata - 30 mpg) up to the mountains for a day of geocaching and the gasoline costs about 10 bucks. Waterfalls, mountains, streams, and geocaches ... all for 10 bucks. Still looks pretty good to me. Shoot, when I played golf, not to mention the greens fees, I lost 10 bucks worth of balls in a typical round. And for me, golf was a lot like geocaching, I was usually in the woods searching for something.

LOL! Now isn't that the truth. I've said I was a natural geocacher because of the time I've spent in the woods looking for a 1.5" diameter white ball which usually ends up under leaves. Ammo boxes are HUGE compared to that. The wife doesn't quite get it yet. She took up golf this year. She likes to "Tin Cup" the water. "I can make it honey, give me another ball."

I was living in Miami area during the 72 oil embargo. Stations has 5-gallon/car limits and had to close completely on Sunday nights. One weekend I had to drive back from Tampa on Sunday night and had to take a 5-gallon can with me and refill in the middle of the everglades at 2am. The money I spend on gas these days is a much smaller percentage of total expenditures than back then.

This morning gas prices went up 10 cents across the board while I was in class. Did I miss something this morning? Happy Hunting! -Amazingracer It's about who controls the information Marty!
