Its not looking good for $1.50 gasoline. Gasoline futures were headed down for a couple of months but have turned upward in the last week or so. Oh well, its still better than $3.00.

Filled up last nite in Oakwood for $1.859. Here in Cleveland it went back up to $2.079.

I have been testing a theory of adding Acetone to my fuel tank to increase mpg. It has worked, to some degree. I have gotten an increase of 1.51 mpg using 2oz of Acetone per 10 gal of regular gas. When I'm through with my test, I'll weigh the increase in mpg vs. the cost of Acetone and the aggravation.

I had never heard of using Acetone as a Fuel Additive. Let us know the full results of your test.

I will let you know my results. I am just about finished with my '2oz' test. Next is my '3oz' test. Not sure if I will do a '4oz' test or not. From past postings, seems like 3.5oz is the break point.

Hmmm...never heard of using it.
Now I'm interested.

Keep us posted on your findings.

Just finished my 2oz test with my Dodge 1500 V8 Magnum 5.2 liter (Big Boy).
I ran 3 full tanks with the Acetone and averaged an increase of 1.2 mpg. I will run a tank without Acetone (to let it 'rest') and then run 3 tanks with 3oz per 10 gal.
Will post results.

we need to do a "blind (pig) test". Give us the acetone, we'll add it to your tank when you're not looking, then you can track mileage not knowing if it's there or not. Wink

I have finished my test.
As you know, by adding 2oz of Acetone per 10 gallons of gas, my mpg increased by 1.2.
By adding 3oz per 10 gallons, my mpg increased by 2.5. The results were kinda scewed, because I put an Aluminum toolbox in the bed loaded with tools. Added weight means less mpg, so I probably would have gotten a little better results without the toolbox.
Now I have to figure if it is worth the effort and cost to continue.
I did notice that it seems like I have more 'get-up-and-go', even with the box addition.

Ok... about 2.5mpg and more 'get-up-and-go', I think I'm in.
I've been trying to baseline my MPG the last few fillups, but I missed one. Maybe one more baseline and I'll do a test too.

Yea, it's basically the same stuff, but nail polsh remover has a few extra ingredients in it (I think). Pure Acetone is found in the paint departments. I got mine at Walmart.

Not sure about the ingredients, but Acetone tends to be cheaper than nail polish remover. Big Grin

I haven't started using the acetone yet (seem to not make it to the right places in the store while there).

Saw this on Digg though:

Still getting better MPG phat.bak?
