Filled up this morning at $2.179. Considering the thread name is "Rising Gas Prices!!!!" it looks like these messages are off topic. Big Grin

$2.29 at QuickTrip at Floyd Road (near Silver Comet Depot).. that's about the lowest around.

Just drove back from Columbus today, and they were also at $2.29.

I don't reckon that either those in power or those who wish to be right now could plan their way out of a paper bag or be trusted to be able to tie their own shoelaces, let alone affect gas prices.

I'd probably account it more to the following:

  • Lack of hurricanes in oil related areas. Last year we had Katrina, and all of the damage it caused, we're *NOW* on Helene, and most of the storms this year have been insignificant either in power or location.
  • I haven't checked on refinery status in a while, but I think we're running a lot closer to where we were originally.
  • End of summer: Gas prices have normally had a large cyclic component that was high during the summer months, then tapered off as kids went back to school.
  • I'm sure the new oil deposits they found in the Gulf are adding a little downward pressure to oil/gas prices as well.

Either side will try to ride whatever decrease they can, but saying they have something to do with it gives them much undeserved credit. Just as saying either side had something to do with their meteoric rise gives either side much undeserved blame.

Today http://www.georgiagasprices.com/ shows Country Cupboard Cartersville at 1.99 so the $2 barrier has been broken if at only one station.

There one station in Toccoa where the gas is less that $2, it is only 1/10 of a cent less but still it broke the two dollar line.

Still $2.06 or $2.07 at most places in my neck of the woods, with some being very proud of their product at $2.11.

I'd really like to see $1.30 eventually. Don't think that's gonna happen though. Frown

$2.11 up here in Cleveland. That's why I topped off in Cumming ($2.05) on my way home from the GGA meeting yesterday.
