Subtle? Discrete? What's that?

I remember 711s in the 80s, and I want to say that there are a few...very few...left.
Sounds like an idea for a locationless cache to me!

...but I think they still have 'em in Wisconsin and Minnesota. I travel all over North America and generally don't pay much attention to convenience stores unless I need gas or to go potty. I didn't notice any in Maine this week, anyway. I can check out Seattle next week and Vegas next weekend. Who can check out the other 47 states?
Didn't the 7-11 CEO die this week?

Theyve got them in Mo! Cause i went there this summer with my church and we stopped at the 7-11 every night for Slurpees and taquitos(which are quite good). Great store too bad there arent any here. Happy Hunting! -Amazingracer "Life is tough, life is tougher if you're stupid." -John Wayne

Itinerant Intermittent Cacher

I wondered about that too, so I asked a guy I know who works in advertising.
Apparently, 7-Eleven uses an ad-buying company. These companies go out and buy blocks of TV advertising airtime, in bulk, from TV station owners, cable systems, satellite providers, and the like. They buy HUGE quantities of airtime very cheaply -- cheaply enough to re-sell it.
When someone like 7-Eleven buys a flight of national advertising from an ad-buyer, they pay the buyer a flat rate and give him a tape. The buyer dupes the tape and sends it out to all the stations he works with, irrespective of location or market. The stations run the ads, send affidavits back to the buyer, and subtract the time from the buyer's account.
So, the ads reach a lot of useless markets, but they reach the useful ones too. It's far, far cheaper and more time-efficient than the alternative -- individually buying ad time from thousands of stations, one at a time.

. . . without a cache.

Man, it just goes to show . . . If you ask about anything in these forums, you'll get a good, clear answer. Which leads me to ask: If a man says something, and his wife doesn't hear him, is he still wrong? Great info, guys! I feel like I learned something today! See ya on the hunt!
