Reading topics such as "How long is too long?" and "What the..." has made me wonder. Are approval areas geographic? That is to say, is there an "~erik~" territory and a "mtn-man" territory? Do they cover the same area or overlap? Is there some sort of crazy map resembling the boundaries of the Georgia Congressional districts? Hmmm....

There is some overlap, but because of local restictions the approvers tend to specialize. Gpsfun, for example, covers Delaware and some other states. Many of the countries and US states that I used to approve caches in now have their own local approvers, which is great - there is no way one person can be up on all the rules.

For instance - in the United Kingdom it is illegal to place a geocache in a hole in the ground that's been used as an animal burrow. It is also considered rude to post a cache that doesn't mention the nearest pub for post caching refreshments. In this country we'd decline to post it due to commercial content.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Perhaps we could rethink that one! Top Hat
