Been there, done that, and then did it again. Hate it when that happens, and it's usually because I toss the pack carelessly in the passenger seat or floorboard of my truck.

Johnnie - It's a pain, but I keep two packs just for that reason. One of them is just a straight camelbak viper (?), water only, no pockets. I sweat like a pig and get thirsty easy, so it's a necessity for me even for a 20-30 minute jaunt. Plus, it's conviently smaller.

My Camelbak Blowfish came with a Ergo HydroLock

which my bite valve connects to. I always close it when I put the Camelbak into a vehicle. It never leaks, now once I thought the Reservoir had a leak, it turns out the gasket in the cap had gotten old and I need to make sure I close it tight.

Mine has one too. I've never used it for fear that I'd blow a gasket sucking with it closed. Wink

I'll have to remember to close it the next time I throw the CamelBak into the back of the car. Thanks for pointing it out Allen.

Now there was a word picture I really didn't need.

I've gotta echo Johnnie and say go prepared no matter how easy a woodland cache may seem. I thought I was going to seek a simple one recently and wound up wandering the woods for 3 hrs without water or GMRS. Not smart.

See ya on the hunt!

... no, never use snakes for hand holds. TinSparrow's November 29th entry into Gotcha! is a good explanation of why that is a bad idea.

I've seen several snakes in the woods on my treks, but fortunately they were only laying on the path near my boots, and not attached to the side of my hand.
