Yikes, it's almost that time again, Elachee GPS Summer School. Here's a link to last year's discussion, which has a link to the previous year's, which has a link to the previous year's, which... oh you get the drill.

Anyway, the date is June 5th, which is a Thursday. I'll hide some temporary caches the weekend before, and take off a vacation day to work with the middle school kids on the 5th.

I would expect attendance to be small - a half dozen maybe, though there may be more. I'd enjoy and appreciate any help that's available.

Got the file and I'm ready to have a great time! Told my boss I have to have the day off to be at my house for a visit from the electrician. SHHH..... Don't tell!

Well, it was another great GPS Summer School by erik. No snakes this year but there was a great group of kids and geomuse, izzy~bel and I helped out. Since there wasn’t an event for this, I thought I’d post a few pictures here:

My thanks again to those who helped out. I'm sorry that I couldn't make it an "event cache" as in prior years, but the geocaching.com commercial guidelines have been tightened up recently. As the kids pay to attend it does border on being commercial (even though they pay a not-for-profit organization) so I didn't want to put the cache reviewer in an uncomfortable position of having to decline to publish the listing.

So, sorry for no smiley, but enjoy the limited edition Groundspeak Volunteer geocoin!

Izzy~bel and I did receive smileys, just a different kind. Thanks for the coin. It was a nice surprise. We spent the rest of the day recuperating poolside. It was a fun morning and the kids were all great.

We've been asked to do this again for 2009. Date is July 16th if you'd like to pencil that in.

I'll post more info when I get it.

Just a bump.
So far six kids have signed up, they will allow up to twelve. So far I'm the only adult signed up. Please contact me if you can help out. I'll go out today and hide some caches, but let me know if you can be available from about 9am to 2pm next Thursday.

Just checked with my boss. I can take a vacation day next Thursday, so count me in!

I'm scrambling to see if I can make this work, but so far I can't reschedule my daughter's appointment. I'll let you know if a miracle happens and somthing allows me to participate.

I'm glad you posted today - I had completely forgotten and only had to beg "a tiny" to get the day off. Happy to do this!

Had a blast today with Erik, Catherine and TREZ. The middle schoolers weren't too bad either.

Thanks Geomuse and Trez for your help. I bribed my daughter Cat with ice cream after we were out of the woods. She's now sleeping in my recliner. It was hot and muggy, but since we only hiked 3.7778 miles it wasn't too bad an experience. The kids seemed to enjoy it too.

We saw lots of snakes, and I got defecated on by the one I picked up. Oh well, I got what I deserved for scaring him sh*tless.
