I posted a note with a question for the following cache:
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=20437

This is the reply I got:

User Slayerette has contacted you with the following message:

Yes it is still active.

I have a question of my own...I just won't post it on the website, or maybe I should. The question is: When did you become the Cache Police?

Was I inappropriate in my question? The reply I got seemed very snippy. I meant no harm in the question, but if I've done something wrong I want to know so I don't do it again. I don't wish to bring the wrath of other cachers down on me.

Just make sure you put my last response up here as well.

Do make sure you edit it properly so not to post other people's business.

Just for the record, no accusation was intended.
=====================
User Slayerette has contacted you with the following message:

Yes probably. I just have issue with people putting log entries on pages that are just with out thought. If you wanted to know if the cache was still active ask the owner. There is a Hyperlink by the cache owners name at the top lefthand side of the page that will allow you to email them. When you Post a question on the page like you did...You are making the statement that you have already tried to contact the cache owner for information and they did not bother to email you back. Since you did not try to contact the cache owner, (that would be me), you have basically accused me of not being responsive. As you can see by reading this email, I am very responsive.
If you had sent me an email asking me about this cache, I would have told you ...

I am glad you are interested with the parasite cache, There are 3 others out there. If you would like, I will contact you when I get the parasite #3 cache back, or receive any further information about it to let you have first chance at it. Just let me know.

Anne

User ctjones has contacted you with the following message:

Jeez, forgive me for being interested in the cache. I was hoping to go hunting for it that's why I asked the question. A bit sensitive aren't you?

Thanks for editing.

My explanation for why I was offended and for the snippy remark is above.

Basically Yo Yo had a good question, and I understand Slay's response. I would have sent an email to the owner instead of posting a note; as Slay suggested. Only after the owner didn't respond in a reasonable period of time, (to me that's two weeks), would I might post a note. Knowing me, I would just take it off my to-do list. With only two watchers on the cache, it would have been iffy if you would get a response from someone other than the owner.

I've a cache that hasn't been found since mid-January. I checked it in March, and it's just fine. That long a period of time is fairly normal for the hard to get to and/or difficult to score caches.

Heck, I just joined the ranks of the Cache Nazis in that I deleted a find on a virtual after waiting months for the cacher to send the verification information. I'm sure once he notices he'll be ticked. Ah, well.

See ya on the hunt!

Actually, I might has sent an email to the last person how found the cache to see if he still has it. Based on his log it sounds like he still does. That would be out of the cache owners hands and is something to address with the person who has been holding on to it for so long.

Tim,
Congratulations for breaking the 200 finds mark. Thumbs Up

As for the tempest in the teapot regarding form, I believe I would have e-mailed the owner, but then again I might have posted a note. After all the page owner could always respond then delete the note from the page.

Cheers,
