First, a link. Dauset Trails Nature Center

On March 26th: Bluebirds & Bluegrass Festival. An info booth will be set up to chat with folks and spread the word about goecaching in general and on the GGA in specific. Volunteers are needed if for no other reason but to demonstrate the wide variety of folk who participate in the game. Last year we gained a few new geocachers and made an excellent impression on some of the other outdoors groups.

April 8th: Teach the teachers. This is a class consisting of rather formal instruction on the use of the GPSr with lots of hands on instruction and practical exercises. This is intended to be a train the trainer class. The audience will be people who in turn will go and teach other people. This is extremely important and that we have been invited to do this is a huge feather in our cap.

I'll take lead, but would like some volunteers to assist. We will be in need of several GPSrs for the participants to use during the class. A wide variety would be great!

Class will be 2 hrs and, if one wants one can camp at Dauset (tents only) that night and hang with a lot of nice folks. (This is special as camping at Dauset is for all intents and purposes by invitation only.)

If you want to volunteer for the March event, all you need do is watch the event cache pages as it'll be set up as such.

If you want to volunteer for the April class, please drop me a note at handlere at gmail dot com.

As I'm sure you know, I will be bugging y'all more as the time grows closer.

See ya on the hunt! (or in the booth or in class)

Since I demonstrated what variety of folk I was for you this past year, I certainly don't mind demonstrating again. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thanks, Tarvol! I've got you on the sucker, I mean, volunteer list for March.

For those thinking of volunteering for the April class, the following is the course synopsis I sent to the Center.
quote:
This course is for those interested in the use of a handheld GPS (Global Positioning System) unit to collect data in the field for use in practical activities. In particular, the course will introduce Geocaching, a high tech treasure hunt game using GPS. The primary aim it to enable participants to develop basic skills and understandings associated with using technology for practical activities with real tasks and problem solving activities, such as a treasure hunt. At the end of the course, participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of GPS and how it works, gain confidence and skills to set up a GPS unit and collect waypoints, and create and share practical exercises.

Is this a Saturday? Maybe having a teacher on hand and willing to share lesson plans could help?

If I'm in town, I'd love to participate in the event in March for sure. I'll watch for the events page.
