Cache is empty? What to do?

So folks are logging that my cache ”Nestled in the Shadows of the Mountain” is now empty with the exception of the logbook…

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=23354

When I placed it I filled it with brand new items that I had bought, Spent about $20-30. I hid the cache in a nice “nest” and covered it with about 3 armloads of leaves. Each time I have checked the cache I have found it to be left completely uncovered. Each time I recovered it as originally hidden.

Several people have logged that when they found the cache it was out in the open and uncovered. Also from some of the logs and the pictures that I had developed from the cache cam it is apparent people are driving up to it, jumping out of the car, getting the cache then taking it to a parking lot up the road to log it. Which is evident by pictures of groups in the parking area a quarter mile or so up the road with the cache container.

Do to the location of the cache it is highly unlikely that anyone would have stumbled upon it, even more unlikely if it was re-hidden properly. I haven’t been there to read logs since it went empty so I have no idea what happened.

So what do y’all think? Should I just leave it as it is since the actual logbook is there? Other cachers seem to be leaving items now as well. Or make it a micro?

Johnny's probably right. I hate to see a good cache be abused, and it's a real heartbreaker to fill a cache with quality stuff and then see people trade out junk or nothing at all.

For the most part, it seems that our little corner of the Geocaching World is pretty good about leaving more than we take or trading upwards instead of trading downwards. (I just made that terminology up on spur of the moment....is there already a set of terms established to describe the action of taking lesser quality and leaving greater quality and vice versa?)

Let's hope that cache is the exception rather than the rule.

Urban caches in easy-to-get-to places are often either empty or contain worthless junk. Hard to find multi-caches off the beaten path are usually full of neat stuff. Therefore I offer the following Geocaching observations.

Geocaching lesson #107: Dishonest people are usually lazy too.

Geocaching guideline #4: Don't put a lot of neat stuff in an urban cache in an easy-to-get-to place.

You said other caches seem to be filling it up so I would just leave it alone for a while and see what happens. You can always turn it into a micro in the future.

Geocaching Lesson #1 - The shortest route to the cache is often not the best route.

That's a start.

Batteries purchased at the dollar store will go dead 3/4 of the way to the cache.

To avoid the 'Drunken Bee GPS Dance' -
The closer you get to the cache spot, the less you should look at your GPS.

When attempting to find a cache after dark, use a 1.25 MILLION candlepower flashlight.

When doing a night cache that involves finding reflective markers, hold the flashlight up near your eyes as you scan and the markers will shine the light back at you. Thumbs Up
