If you missed the two April 14th Georgia CITO events, there is an ongoing one you can participate in. This Lake Lanier Cache was belatedly submitted as a CITO Event by a US Army Corps of Engineers ranger, but couldn't really be posted as such since it's an ongoing effort and includes a physical cache find. It was therefore published as a traditional cache, but the cache page speaks for itself with regard for what's needed there.

The location is badly in need of some trash removal, so please support the USACE by doing some CITO as you log a smilie for finding a cache. There's some nifty swag in the cache too.

I'll be here more than once - during maintenance runs .... I have a few caches in the nearby area. I'll stock 'em with garbage bags.
CITO!

USACE Really appreciates the work we've done so far, and would like to have an unofficial CITO day this Saturday the 28th. It's too late to submit a CITO Event cache page, but PLEASE try to participate.

This will be from 9 to 12:30 at the cache site at the beginning of this thread. Grab a smilie and grab some trash!

Here's the latest info:

quote:
I have made arrangements to work on Saturday and so I will be able to bring one of the work trucks to transport the debris. I will also bring bags and some trash grabbers. The grabbers are real back savers.
Thanks for all of your involvement.

The director of the Lanier Association suggested I make a list of those who help and she will provide T-Shirts for you to take to your next Georgia Geocachers Association meeting. Typically T-Shirts are distributed when trash is taken to the marina's dumpsters, but I will be hauling the trash from this site.

Mike will post something here too, he's just waiting for his log in account to be approved for forum access.

Thanks for all who are planning to attend. I hope to meet some of you tomorrow. Since ~erik~ posted my note to him, there is not much more to say. I hope to arrive around 9am, but may arrive shortly there after. Unexpected things never fail to happen.

Ratz ... not enough leadtime. I'm a sucker for T-Shirts, but have already made other plans (Montgomery Corner w/2007 Lacy nickels).
I'll be back to help out periodically during maintenance runs.

Thanks to ~erik~, LaRobley, mertat, Rhoda and two fishermen, Shane and Jeremy for assisting in the cleanup. It was a huge success. A one ton trash hauling truck was over filled. Infact, the baby matress came loose on I-985. I saw it move and slowed. Everything seemed ok and I got on the exit ramp. At the bottom of the ramp I checked the mirror and it was gone. Rhoda and I parked at a gas station and walked up the ramp and the darn thing was in the middle of the road. Folks were going around it in the fast lane and in the exit lane. As we waited for a gap in traffic, a Flowery Branch police officer pulled behind the matress and stopped. The lady on the ramp stopped. We grabbed it and dragged it back to the truck. Thank God no one was hurt or in an accident! I tied a rock into the side of the tarp and secured it so nothing else could get loose.

The crew did such a good job that there is little easy access trash left except on the entrance road.

Someone had moved the cache into the Poison Ivy, but we moved it to its origional location. We had to try to hide it some now. Before it blended in with the trash, not it looks kind of out of place.

Happy Caching- Underdirt

We weren't a big group but we had big results. It was a fun day and nice to feel like we accomplished so much. Here's a group shot without LaRobley (sorry about that Larry!) with the truck ALMOST completely loaded:

Other pics can be seen here.

Thanks to underdirt for setting this up!

You guys did a fantastic job. We'll have to plan another visit in the near future.

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.

Yep, small group and big results. That has to be a record for volume of trash per geocacher. Way To Go.
