Question:
I had someone post what looked like a spoiler in a log on my cache recently. I took what I think was an appropriate action, but as always I'm second-guessing myself. So, the question:

If I find a spoiler in a log, should I:

Choices:
Delete the log
Encrypt the log
E-mail the finder to please edit his log
Both (2) and (3) (which is what I did)

If it is a major spoiler, copy it to an email to the finder with a note asking they remore the spoiler part, that way they don't have retype the entire thing, then delete.

If a minor spoiler you might want to just encrypt and email them. But if even on a minor spoiler I don't think it is wrong to email the text and delete the spoiler.

But never delete without some kind of email explaining the reason for the delete.

There's not much I can add to what Allen so eloquently wrote.

I do enjoy spoilers that are sort of cryptic - so that they're essentially meaningless or glossed over until the cache is finally found. Then you hit yourself on the forehead and say - "so that's what he meant by that!" That's why I left the spoiler photo in a log of my EZ2C cache. Wink

Thanks, Allen and Erik. As it turns out, I encrypted the log and sent an e-mail asking him to reword his log so it wasn't such a spoiler. I was very nice about it. (The finder is a new cacher with only 4 finds.) Within an hour, he'd edited the log and e-mailed me back. He was quite the good sport about it, so everything worked out fine.

Those aren't spoilers those are teases and I have no problem letting hunters place them in logs.

I would have done the same thing. (And have done so in the past)

I agree with everyone on most instances...the exception to me is if the cache placer explicitly posted information on the cache page to not give clues or how you find it in your log.

I'm not speaking for Andymand, but I know he has had this problem quite a few times on his Mad Cachers cache.

I believe in this case I would delete the log and then email the cacher. They can easily re-log the cache without the clue/hint/spoiler and meanwhile, you don't have to worry about others seeing it.

Of course if someone is watching the cache in hopes of doing it in the near future, then all bets are off as they already have the email.
