Geocacher![]() |
I own some caches that I think are above average caches. I have worked hard to make these caches creative and different. I have tried to give cachers who visit my caches a fun caching experience. So, it really bugs me when I get a “TFTC” log on one of these caches. I am really disappointed by logs like “1 of 5 today, thanks”, or “TNLN SL“ or one of the other various cheap repetitive logs on my good caches. If a cache owner puts some work into a cache and it is better than average or a little creative then it deserves better than a 4 letter log. I have logged “TFTC” many times, but I do this on caches that were quick and simple, so they get an equivalent log. I have no problem with a “TFTC” log on a couple of my caches because they are ordinary caches. If the log fits the cache then I have no problem with it, but it just frustrates me as a cache owner to get junk logs on good caches. A good log is the only reward cache hiders get for their efforts. A good log will encourage hiders to continue to put out good caches. Cheap logs encourage more cheap caches. To you guys who put efforts into your logs: a heartfelt thanks. I appreciate you!!

What a great topic and a sentiment I feel, as well. To me, logs should be as much or more about the caching experience or the cache itself - puzzle involved, container, unique hide - than the cacher. I agree that the all too typical, "3 of 47 of my (wonderful - in my own mind) cache run at the lake today" type of log just slays me. These logs rarely mention one single thing about the cache itself, not even a "nice job". Just doesn't seem quite right after all the effort some caches take to place and maintain. I'm with you Lakebum! Cache, responsibly.....

I thought there'd be more discussion on this one. This is slightly related in reference to Cheap logs. I recently came across an online cache log where the hide was actually praised, but it also included their opinion of a FTF (First to Find) activity surrounding this geocache. This entry expressed a disguss of and the pointlessness of the FTF and included negative references to LPC's (Lamp Post Caches) and how new cachers would view this negatively. The political or opinion portion of this log was negative, had nothing to do with this particular cache and in my opinion contaminates good intentions of this cache placement. Is it in the right of the owner to ask the logger to edit and remove the offending comments of their log entry should the owner find it distasteful? And if the logger was to refuse the request, is it within the rights of the cache owner to delete this log entry? Just wondering what y'all think the spirit of Geocaching would be good logging etiquette. . Don't say you can't, say you'll try.
