I Never Find Anything |
Fellow cacher Richwolf put me on to this Texas Selector. Some neat things to "dress up" your cache descriptions.

9key is a pretty nice guy. It is cool that he hosts the images for this on his site and makes it available to all.

First Jeremy has mentioned several times that he will be adding the ability to record extra information similar to these directly to cache reports. I assume there is a chance these will be in the new and improved gecoaching.com that is suppose to come live in April or May. If he does this way we should be able to search for caches that say allow dogs etc. However if people who use the Texas Selector and don’t update the cache description, wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the search.
Secondly for me some of these just give too much away. Examples being "wading", "steep climb", "Thorns - burrs, pickers, etc". I like the surprise and having to be prepared for anything reasonable to expect. Others seem unnecessary, examples "Less than 500 ft. from car to cache", "Lunchtime Cache - A cache that can be done on a lunch hour. Also called a park and grab". I can figure these out for myself. If too much is given away, that reduces the fun for me, and therefore reduces the chances I will hunt it. Anyway this is just my opinion, yours may be different. |

I think Allen (above) is right on. Too much information takes away a lot of the fun. On the other hand, many of us are disappointed when we go some distance to a cache with our pup and find "No dogs allowed." Or the park closed 10 minutes ago. The "difficulty/terrain" rating system doesn't help with this. I guess the cache owner must make his/her own decisions on how much to let out. Look at Erik's invisible cache. He....

I am still looking for the one that says "HUGE, dam-sized hunk of concrete in the roadway that will send your car airborne even at 25MPH." We could just use a dam as the symbol, maybe with a car flying over it.
