Is it really necessary to have the log book in a zip lock bag when it’s already in a moister proof container? It seems after a few visits of being opened and closed the sandwich baggie is simply trash in the cache.

I don't know that it is "necessary", but I have seen non ammo box geocaches stop being a moisture proof container and the ziplock bag helped. I always use the freezer version of the ziplock bag as it is tougher than the regular. I also keep some in my day pack so that if a geocache's log bag is in bad shape I can replace it.

Freezer bags do work well. They're also handy for keeping traveling geocoins with the log and segregated from the McToys, swag, and other trade junk. Otherwise, they head straight to the bottom of the ammo can and get overlooked.

Surprisingly, they're pretty good for sandwiches too. Especially on those long hikes when the bread, PB, & J all get mixed together and become semi-liquid in the bottom of the backpack.

Ha! Next you'll tell us tupperware and lock & lock containers have some use in the kitchen. Roll Eyes

What about using a small lock-n-lock container for the logbook and place it inside the ammo can? Just place a sticker on it that says, "please do not remove from the cache"

A cache within a cache! Does that mean I get to log it twice Cool

Seriously though, that would probably work if you had a small enough log book. Plus you could put the loose geocoins in it to keep them from going to the bottom of the ammo can.

I can only remember one ammo can leaking from all those I've found. It seems those film canisters have a short if any moister proof life span.
