tjbowers Administrator (9/6/01 9:15:03 pm) Ideas for Cache Contents I'm getting ready to place another cache and want to solicit content ideas. Although the game as originally envisioned uses trinkets I've noticed a lot of caches that go beyond what I would consider trinkets. (Not that there's anything wrong with that). Does anyone have any ideas for good cache swag? Seriously, I just found a cache in Ohio (GC1A5 that was full of stuff. The one yesterday was no piker, either. Yesterday's cache was near Wright Patterson AFB and the Airforce Museum and contained several sew-on patches for the various Apollo missions, balsa wood airplane kits, and other stuff - but with a primary theme of flying. Today's cache contained a calculator, a couple of different sets of colored pens and pencils, and other items of interest to school-age folks. A cache placed by erik88l-r and his daughter contained a lot of cat-related paraphernalia, and was in a kitty litter container. The idea is, you might pick a theme of some sort and select items of that genre. Something by e. e. cummings might work... -Brad ~~~~~~~~~~~~ GeneGarris Registered Geocacher (3/1/02 2:45:10 pm) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents I would like to fill a cache with bags of polyvinyl alcohol (slime) I just can not remember how I made it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ AJLacy Magnificent Poster (3/1/02 3:05:19 pm) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents one of several web pages another web page yet another web page ho hum... denique Remind me not to go to anymore of your caches!!!. I remember reading an article about 10-15 years ago which said in a few years we would have access to the entire knowlege of the human race and the problem would be finding what you wanted. All the knowlege isn't available yet, but the problem of finding the information is here. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ the mtn man and puppymonster (3/3/02 10:58:19 pm) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents Mr. Lacy, I have to say I like your new logo for your postings. That is cool to have the "Member GGA" as your personal logo/icon. The puppymonster would be offended if I were to change mine from the pictures of him that I rotate out!!! GREAT JOB! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ the mtn man and puppymonster (3/3/02 11:09:09 pm) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents DANG! Just as I have written this yours has changed into an ammo box. Yours change as you update or refresh the page!!!!! I now have eight J.C. the puppymonster icons that I rotate out (as I get a whim). HEHE! You are so the man, Mr. Lacy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Da Rebel Registered Geocacher (3/4/02 12:08:46 am) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents It's kinda fun to rotate icons. Depends on my whim at the time too. Sometimes a rebel, sometimes a pussycat, sometimes a <------- Concerning cache contents, and besides my usual Studebaker toy, I like to place such things as dice, pens (with my business plug on them), hand cleaner (I scored a real good deal on a whole case of little bottles), and whatever floats my boat at the time. One thing I don't do anymore is list a cache's contents item by item. That seems to encourage theft from the cache. Whatever I place in a cache, I consider gone. So if someone wants to swap a CD from the cache for a $1 lottery ticket, that's fine with me! See ya on the hunt! Also I am having my web hosting company install some software which will let me create graphics on the fly which I am going to use to set up something which I think is neat. As for cache contents, what we put in depends on where the cache is. The more difficult ones get a couple of nice items (examples GGA cap, geocaching cap). Then all the caches will have some trinkets like my home made geocaching decals, wooden nickels, disposable rain poncho, some novelty items I picked up, the always useful pack of AA batteries. HomeDepot had them for just under $3. Then they stopped carrying them. They were kinda cool - in red and green, and maybe other colors. REI still has them, but for about $4, which is a bit much $ to spend to buy lots of for geocaching trade goods. Wish I could find a place that had a volume discount on these. ~erik~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gossamyrrh Magnificent Poster (3/6/02 12:18:13 am) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents if you want fun, silly toys that will appeal to kids, the best stuff in the world is at this site. I bought a $20 grab bag and I am set for a month or so...no to mention the fun of sorting through the contents!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ AJLacy Awe-Inspiring Poster (3/7/02 2:28:48 pm) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents Quote: ------------------------------- I was using the mini-Coleman lanterns that run on watch batteries as sorta my signature item...REI still has them, but for about $4 ------------------------------- I don't know anything about this store but they have them for $2.99 original link now broken; try surfing here on your own mvp.sportsline.com/itmMod...=be1540611 and of course shipping cost will have to be added. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ erik88l r Administrator (3/7/02 6:20:52 pm) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents Thanks Allen! I think I'll wait just a tad longer 'cause knowing Lewis he'll find a place that'll pay me to take them off their hands. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Snake1411 Registered Geocacher (3/11/02 12:38:50 am) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents Note for Erik: Was in Bass Pro Shops Saturday night after caching all day and saw some green "Bass Pro Shop" brand mini-lantern keychains for 1.99. They were on the rack by a cash register. They only had around 6-8 there, but there could be more. They also had the Coleman mini-lantern keychains for 2.99. The store is off I-85 exit 108 in the Discover Mills mall. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ erik88l r Administrator (3/11/02 8:13:07 pm) Re: Ideas for Cache Contents Thanks Snake - that stores only 6 or 8 miles from home. |
