Georgia Geocachers Association
April 2004 Meeting Minutes The April GGA meeting was held at Etowah Park in Rome, Georgia. The meeting was ably hosted by a group of the Rome geocachers. They also hosted an elaborate picnic lunch for all attendees including homemade cakes and cupcakes. Everyone who attended commented on the excellent work done. The main geocachers who did most of the work included Team HappySpider, Bad Dawg 83, Sledgehampster, and Deaglos, and the homemade desserts were the work of “Ms. HappySpider.” Special thanks to this team for all the excellent work! The program for the meeting was presented by Mtn-man. He briefly discussed some of the basic dos and don’ts of placing geocaches. Main topics covered containers, types of caches, and cache locations. Mtn-man emphasized that properties administered by the National Park Service and State of Georgia parks are off limits to physical caches. JoGPS showed us an example of a tiny cache that was less than one inch long, but had a log sheet. Mtn-man showed us his practice hand grenade and suggested not using it for a cache container. We then took the usual social break and many ran to find the two caches hidden in the park. Ask HappySpider to describe his clever technique for hiding stage 2 of “Prisoners in the Park.” The second part of the meeting consisted of drawing for door prizes and awarding the nearly 40 Travel Bugs that were dropped at the meeting. The Rome cachers had stocked up on lots of door prizes. There was a door prize for everyone with a few left over. First we held the drawing for the kids’ door prizes, and each youngster got a prize. Then we did the Travel Bug distribution. We identified the Bugs that had specific destinations and assigned them to attendees who were going there, or at least in that direction. Raffle tickets were drawn for awarding the bugs that had broader goals. Then, the drawing for all the door prizes was done. Some excellent prizes were won, including a PDA, some rechargeable battery chargers, a walking stick, a portable radio, many cache trade items and some unique cache containers. The meeting was adjourned with a round of thanks to our excellent hosts. Everyone agreed it was one of the best GGA meetings ever. Thanks Romans! |

I'll have you know the venerable Eeyore will be 83 years old this Christmas. He deserves to have a grey beard. Actually, he is imitating his hero (me) and so am I. Imitating my heroes, that is. And yes, Eeyore is one of my heroes, too.
