February 2007 GGA Meeting Notes

The February 2007 GGA meeting was held near Fairburn, south of Atlanta, on the 10th of the month. It was a cold day, so it was great to have a nice warm meeting room at a local church. Thanks go to Rebel for securing the location and doing much of the organizational work that made the meeting such a success.

The theme of the meeting was “Chili Cook-off!”. There were 15 entrants to the competition, and as well as supplying chili to the assembled multitudes, the entrants and other generous participants provided drinks and deserts. Wow!

Papageorgia, Bushbob (who won last year’s cook-off), and Dad of Parents of Sam served as judges, and got to sample all 15 entrees with a discerning pallet while the rest of us just pigged out. We counted 79 people in the room, but with so many milling around we suspect there were more. Sixty two existing members (under 53 geonicks) checked their names on the roster, and another 13 new members signed the roster.

We enjoyed the chili and socializing, and after appropriate fanfare the winners were announced:
Third place: Peaches
Second place: Papageorgette
and in First place: Bamadaisy5.
Each received a great trophy procured by Rebel. Thanks again Ed!

Phat.bak was also awarded a trophy by Slayerette, but it had nothing to do with the Chili Cook-off, but rather for one of his finds at last year’s CITO event.

Mtn-man acted as the MC at the meeting, and asked new members to stand and be recognized. Greg spoke briefly about the GGA and reminded those present to sign in, and reminded new members to register on the GGA discussion boards.
We had the usual raffle of donated items, with a second special raffle for one of the new members to win a copy of last years GGA geocoin. See the event cache page for additional details and photos.

Greg noted that at one of the upcoming meetings we’d likely hold a geocoin auction (hint - bring money), and solicit ideas for a new GGA geocoin.

Our next meeting will be held March 10th in Columbus. Plan to arrive early for some high flying action, but Tums and Beano hopefully won’t be needed to prepare for that meeting as with this one. Details of the March meeting can be viewed here: clicky

See you there!
