Meeting Minutes
March 12, 2005

The March 2005 meeting was held at the Boy Scouts Headquarters building in Griffin. There were 16 new members and 45 current members present. Everyone was impressed with the nice facilities. Thanks to ejldixie and Rebel for arranging for their use.

The major topic of the meeting was “Paperless Geocaching.” KennethPruett and Marietta Gecko were the presenters, with help from ~erik~ and Cymbaline among others. A good bit of the time was devoted to “Geocaching Swiss Army Knife,” or GSAK. This very high-function program can be purchased online.

After the break, we learned about more of the available programs to both load the GPS and/or PDA with geocaching information. Plucker, CacheMate, GPS Sonar, Pocket Explorer, etc., were all discussed and demonstrated. It became clear that there is a wide range of available aids to permit paperless ‘caching. Thanks to KennethPruett and MariettaGecko for all the information. The GGA web page will be updated soon to reflect some of these newer programs and techniques. In the meantime, cachers are encouraged to present questions on the technical forum at http://ggaonline.org/eve/forums/a/frm/f/6056010303.

Orpheus then announced that there was a meeting of the Flint River Astronomers Club that evening and all were invited to attend. It was expected to be a clear night with some special “gazing” opportunities present.

~erik~ reminded everyone of the election coming up for a new Steering Committee Member to replace Trailerman. Voting will be by email starting the evening of March 13, 2005 and running for two weeks.

Thorny1 handed out the new Georgia Geocoins that people had ordered. They are very nice.

Lastly, we held a raffle for the door prizes and the few remaining Travel Bugs. Phat.bak served as “Raffle Master” and never drew his own number!

The meeting was then adjourned and everyone scattered to enjoy the perfect weather caching.

The next meeting will be held on April 9, 2005. Location will be announced.
