June 2008 GGA Meeting Notes

The GGA kicked off it’s 7th anniversary June 2008 meeting at Terrell Mill Park – back where it all began 7 years ago – with a cookout and the first ever GGA Geocaching Olympics. We had 50 old members under 43 geonicks and 11 new members under 10 geonicks.

The festivities started with hamburgers and hotdogs cooked on the grill by phat.bak, along with lots of yummy side dishes. Two big sheet cakes – one yellow and one chocolate – with “Happy Anniversary GGA” in green icing were demolished enjoyed after the celebration. Snow cones were also available (thanks to mtn-man) to help cool everyone down from the heat.

The new 7th anniversary GGA geocoin was available at the event and those who hadn’t made purchases online were able to get them at the meeting. These coins sport a snazzy “7” with the GGA logo on one side and a Georgia peach on the other. Phat.bak and boxerlady were presented with one regular and one limited edition coin in appreciation of their winning designs.

Then the GGA Geocaching Games began. Those who didn’t participate had fun cheering and heckling on the players. Events included GPS figure skating, ROT13 decryption, the Multi-“Cache” Run, the Nano Log Roll, the Ammo Can Toss, and the Skirtlifter Dash. And the competition was fierce. First to finish didn’t necessarily mean a gold medal, as was seen in the ROT13 decryption event where accuracy trumped speed. There was a brief rain delay, but eventually all the games were completed and even the rains couldn’t dampen people’s spirits as the medals and prizes were handed out.

Photos of the event, and the logs of those who were lucky enough to make it can be read here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=...38-a19c-247eb28a2410

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.
