Since the Steering Committee hasn't worked out all the kinks for emailing the monthly meeting minutes, I have decided to post them here once more. Enjoy, and hope to see all 166 members at the Brunch this coming Saturday. Check it out!

GGA Meeting Minutes
November, 2003

The November meeting was held in Daffin Park in Savannah on November 9, 2003. We were treated to a cool, breezy fall day in this beautiful urban park. We welcomed nine new members from Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, and were joined by a big group of old members.

With a round of applause for her excellent meeting arrangements, Penny of “Penny & Chaos” opened the meeting and invited us all to join in the Pledge of Allegiance. Then Johnnie took over the Master of Ceremonies role and had us play a fun game of introductions that involved taking a bit of toilet tissue and…well, you had to be there!

Mtn-man presented a brief history of the GGA for the benefit of all. He highlighted some of the meetings, CITO events, and told of our efforts to put geocaching in a good light with the various park officials – federal, state and local. Also, he highlighted some of the current dos and don’ts for hiding a cache. Some Q & A on and off topic followed.

For the break, Johnnie had put together four micro-caches, which he had hidden with four of the attendees. Our job was to go around among the members introducing ourselves and asking if they had a cache. Great fun, with many finding all four caches!

After the break, AllenLacy, one of our earliest members and a veteran geocacher, presented how he prepares a cache for placement using an actual cache he had prepared. He explained container preparation, described everything that should be in the cache and how he makes or develops it, and some tips on keeping the cache in good shape for years. Generously, Allen donated the model cache as a door prize.

Allen then showed us his geocaching backpack and described what he carries on a cache placement and/or hunt. Overall a great discussion that provided many of us with new ideas and hints for being on the trails.

Next came the drawing for door prizes. There were, in addition to Allen’s cache, Travel Bugs, coordinates to a Travelling Cache, Geocoins, cache goodies, and a few neat gifts like the stuffed doggie sent by Chaos. Everyone attending the meeting got a door prize and a few got two. Great prizes!

We “passed the hat” during the meeting so we could reimburse Penny for the rent of the park pavillion.

The meeting was adjourned and everyone chatted for a while, went geocaching in the area, or headed straight to Johnnie Harris’ for a delightful group dinner.

GGA owes special thanks to Penny for her extensive work in arranging for a fun weekend and delightful meeting place! Thanks, Penny!

[Edited to correct meeting location name.]
