Recovering Geocacher

The Georgia Geocachers Association May meeting was held on the 14th at Cave Spring, a small town south west of Rome, in a lovely park that includes the cave with the underground spring from which the town gets its name. Thanks, Sledgehampter for finding the shelter, johnnie for fronting the money for it's rental, and Bad Dawg 83 and HappySpider for suggesting a meeting here.

The meeting started at 3pm with 32 geocaching teams (and approx 42 people) in attendance. The group welcomed several new members, including gridlox who presented commemorative poker chips to all in attendance. That was a nice surprise.

Mtn-man, who acted as master of ceremonies for us, gave a brief presentation on poisonous plants to avoid, and how to recognize poison ivy ("leaves of three leave it be", as noted by a clever attendee) and not confuse it with other ivies that are not hazardous. Marietta Moose provided a link that elaborates on poisonous plants of the world: http://mic-ro.com/plants/

Marietta Moose also made a brief presentation to Team Pez to thank Corey for his help with MMs first cache. Corey hesitatingly accepted the package, thinking he heard hissing noises coming from the parcel.

Other highlights of the meeting included passing around a framed collection of photos to be signed by all present. These photos of HappySpider were presented to him at a going away party later that evening. He'll be missed, but the geocachers of North Carolina will benefit from his relocation.

Rebel took orders for the 4th Anniversary GeoCoins which should be available at our June meeting. At this time there are only 74 left, so contact him quickly if you would like a coin. On a related subject, the team that produced the excellent Georgia GeoCoin donated the profits from that project to the GGA to be used for future pavilion rentals and awards at the next GGA Challenge. Thanks guys!

Also discussed was the successor to the Yellow Jeep Travel Bugs that were so popular last year. The GGA should be getting a supply of White Jeeps (larger and better quality than the Yellow Jeeps) to distribute at one of the upcoming meetings.

As is customary, a drawing was held at the end of the meeting. Suspiciously, the first numbers drawn were held by erik and mtn-man, who had handed out the tickets. Surely this was just a coincidence. Wink

The next GGA Meeting will be held June 11th in Heritage Park, near McDonough south of Atlanta.
