September 2008 GGA Meeting Notes

THE MEETING - The September 2008 Georgia Geocachers Association meeting took place in Fort Mountain State Park near Chatsworth, GA. We were blessed with a gorgeous day at an enclosed pavilion by a lake with a swimming area and mini golf nearby.

THE PROGRAM – Our program was about some of the history of the Fort Mountain wilderness area. Our narrators were Ruby and Don Mitchell. They spoke mainly about the 855 foot rock/stone wall nearby that was built ages ago. They told us about the theory of who built it and the kinds of people that were in the area at that time. It was interesting to hear about that culture so long ago and the possible origins of the ‘moon eye’ (night vision) people.

Next we were treated to a couple of history ditty’s written by Don and performed by him on the guitar and harmonica with Ruby in harmony.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
- We celebrated the birthday of Trez with a short presentation by Erik that Phat.bak had setup. This mini roast was a lot of fun and Trez was quite the sport as the receiver. We were also treated to an absolutely beautiful and tasty birthday cake decorated in a Caribbean TREZure theme, including cup cakes and gold coins presented and created by Boxerlady. Great job Laura. GAMES – Allen_L came up with the ‘Guess the Coordinate’ game. There was a red bench across the lake from the pavilion that folks needed to find the coordinate of without actually going to it. Can you ‘project a waypoint’? Anyway the winner with the closest submission was 'Whittling Fisher' winning him a nice Coleman camping tent. Congrats! Also, Trishgal won having a submission that was just a bit off...off by a third of a mile. This estimate was off further than anyone else and she got nice tee shirt for her efforts guess. Good sport Trish.

For the Kids, a treasure chest Pinata was hung and subsequently beaten where it finally succumbed to the thrashings spilling its sweet treasure to the ground for the treasure cachers to plunder. Fun had by all.

ATTENDENCE - We added 16 new members under 12 geonicks making the total number of folks in attendance to 60 including 3 dogs and a ferret. Thanks to all you for making this a good turnout.

SPECIAL THANKS – For five years now, Johnnie and Bad Dawg 83 have hosted a GGA event meeting.
Each and every one has been informative by the programs presented and the various activities orchestrated for us to get to know each other.

Each and every one has been tasty and fulfilling. From the burgers and hotdogs from the grill to the tasty treats and cake. Everyone should have gone away ‘FULL’filled.

Each and every one has been FUN. Whether you are trying to determine the best coordinates of a birdhouse is, calculating the coordinates of a bench in the woods or trying to guess who the equestrian geocacher of the group is, these meeting events have most certainly been fun.

Many many Thanks to Johnnie and Bad Dawg 83 for their generosity and valuable time put in to make these remarkable. Thanks guys!
