Recovering Geocacher![]() |
May 2007 GGA Meeting Notes
The May GGA meeting was held at the Rocky Mountain Recreation and Fishing Area NW of Rome, Georgia on May 12th. Fifty two geocaching teams logged in, for a total of about 60 participants. Of those, we had 14 new members under 9 geonicks in attendance, as well as geocachers that joined us from Alabama and South Carolina. Ya’all come back now, ya hear!? The geocacher and Leave No Trace guru GeorgiaHikes, aka Brian Tant, spoke to the group about Leave No Trace Ethics, and in particular the Principles of Leave No Trace for Geocachers: • Prepare and plan ahead • Travel on durable surfaces • Dispose of waste properly • Leave what you find (with the exception of CITO) • Respect wildlife • Be considerate of other visitors Thanks Brian for an informative presentation. The GGA made a donation to the Benton MacKaye Trail Association on Brian's behalf as thanks for his participation. Thanks of course go to the meeting participants who chipped in to the “Cash Cache” to help pay for the pavilion rent and the donation. The balance of the meeting was devoted to socializing, geocoin and travel bug trading, our raffle of donated items, and more socializing. Details and photos can be seen if you’re logged into geocaching.com at this site. Following the meeting many enjoyed the hunt for area caches, and many participated in a dinner in Rome hosted by the Coosa Valley Cachers. Thanks to all who participated in both events. See you June 9th at our special event commemorating the Sixth Anniversary of the GGA! This message has been edited. Last edited by: ~erik~, |
