The May 2006 GGA meeting was held on the 13th at James H. (Sloppy) Floyd State Park near Summerville in the NW part of our state. Forty eight geocachers signed in.
32 existing members checked off 29 geonicks on the roster. Sixteen new members signed up at their first meeting with nine geonicks and were greeted with a round of applause. New members were reminded to log onto the “members only” section of the GGA Discussion Forums, and to contact one of the Steering Committee members if they encountered any problems.

Mtn-man acted as the master of ceremonies, spoke briefly about the GGA, and introduced Mertat as the first speaker.
Mertat spoke of “leaves of three – leave it be” – Poison Ivy. She had pictures and samples (luckily sealed in plastic bags) to illustrate examples of both poison ivy and harmless look-alikes. Mtn-man also supplied examples from his back yard, and told stories of the affects he’s experienced following contact with the vine. Several other members spoke of the rash they got from Poison Ivy, and the importance of washing the urushiol oil off the skin as soon as possible.

Erik88L-R discussed several topics: Rebel had sent a log book to be placed by a Georgia geocacher in Afganistan (TeamMINI), and this was passed along to be signed by those present. Several also donated geocoins and other goodies to put in the new cache.
Examples of the latest GGA Geocoin were passed around, and Atlanta Gal updated those present on the status of the project and their orders.
Lastly, Erik updated the group on the pending USFS permit for geocaches in the Chattahooche National Forest, and the proposed criteria for cache placement and cache labeling.

As with all GGA meetings, an important component is socializing, and there was plenty of that. Several GGA members brought their collection of geocoins, and many enjoyed admiring and/or trading coins. At this month’s meeting the socializing was accompanied by a great “Happy 6th Birthday to Geocaching” cake baked by The Hall Clan, as well as beverages supplied by Mertat. Yum yum!

Our next meeting, on June 10th, will mark the 5th anniversary of the oldest geocaching organization in the world: your Georgia Geocachers Association.

For those of us who couldn't be there would someone post the "proposed criteria"?
