Hello All,

Most of you know that Geocaching was banned in GA State Parks do to irresponsible caching. It has been an uphill struggle ever since in rebuilding a relationship between the state parks and geocaching. Improvements have been made but they are slow in coming.

FDR State Park has a new interpretive Ranger who is also an avid Geocacher. He has received permission from his superintendent to hide some "regular" caches in the Park. He received permission under the agreement that only the Ranger can hide caches at this time. Hopefully with our support this will change. This is an awesome break through for cachers!

Ranger Sam is holding a CITO event, GC1AEE7, in support of geocaching in the park and to introduce the new caches. We are asking for help from all cachers to rally behind Ranger Sam. This is a wonderful opportunity to help this long hard struggle to open up the State Parks throughout GA. This is a very good step forward in building a new positive relationship with the Park.

Please attend the event if at all possible to show your support. Spread the news! If you cannot attend the event then please write a note on the cache page stating that you can't attend however you support geocaching in the park.

The parking pass is $3 per car not person so car pool. If you get 4 to 5 people per vehicle that is less than a dollar per person.

I hope that you find this as exciting and positive as I do. Together we have an opportunity to make a positive impact on Geocaching throughout the state!

Thank you and I encourage your attendance and support!

If I am not working that Saturday, we will be there.

Now, I may be going crazy but I'm sure I saw some caches listed in FDR park. We were camping there about a year ago and there was one that you had to go to the park office to find after taking getting the clues from a few trails. I think there were a couple others, too. But now I don't see them at all, even archived. Was I hallucinating or looking at another park? Or did they all get taken off the site?

Those caches are still there and I understand from RangerSam they will remain. I say "caches" but they are actually stages of a multi in which you can make a choice of several hikes to open the final. Pine Mountain Trek (GCVP13). Phillips4 placed them and they all provide several means of finding the combination to open the final ammo box in the ranger office. The old Top of the Wolf Den was archived and removed at the request of the rangers. Before it was removed the old Top of the Wolf Den cache was voted the outstanding hike cache in Georgia. The hikes that it takes to complete Phillips4's cache to open the ammo box in the ranger office are most certainly some of the most outstanding hike caches in Georgia. I'm excited that RangerSam will be placing caches in the park that will entice more cachers to experience the beauty of this park. In addition to the real caches there is Ejldixie's virtual at Dowdell's Knob....one of my favorite places in Georgia for the last 45 years...the beauty and historical significance of the spot keeps taking me back. One of the best places on earth to have a picnic at sundown.

Thanks, Tarvol. Smile

We actually walked a couple of the trails for that one but had to leave the campsite early and so didn't get to finish the third. It's been on my 'to cache' list to get back and finish that one so I'm glad to know it's still there! I couldn't remember the name of it though and for some reason didn't see it when I did a range search from the CITO event until you pointed it out - now I do.

Thanks again and we hope to make it out to this event!
