Saturday November 18, 2006 six groups/organizations came together to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Columbus kick off their Family Week. We had a great time. We had a cookout, presentations, prizes and caching. The kids had a blast finding hidden treasure in Flat Rock Park. We hide a demonstration cache which held trinkets for the kids donated by Columbus Parks & Rec. We then chose three caches in the park for the kids to find. After the event one of the cachers decided to find a couple of caches he hadn't found yet. The kids were having so much fun that he let a group go along with him. He looked the Pied Piper with a line of kids/adults following him.

There were approximately 10 to 15 couples of Big Brothers/Sisters and their little ones, plus 6 other children from the Midtown Square Lite House program. Derric Jackson, director of BBBS, said he would like to get a group together with the cachers next year for a day of geocaching in the park. He was very pleased with the event.

I will be uploading pictures to the yahoo group. To view the pictures go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CVCachers/.

Event attendees:
1. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Columbus - oganizer.
2. WellCare - organizer, cookout, prizes.
3. Columbus Parks & Rec - donated the facilities and prizes.
4. Oxbow Meadows Educational Learning Center - provided the GPS units and prizes.
5. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - cleaning, served food, spoke to the children on good behavior and staying in school.
6. GIS division of the Columbus Consolidated Government - presentation.
7. Chattahoochee Valley Cachers - organizer, presentation and caching.

I failed to mention and give a big thank you to the cachers that helped with the Big Brother Big Sister event. So here's to you:

THANK YOU
Dreamland - one of the event organizers
MikeGolfJ3 - cook and presentation
JPMoncus - cook, presentation and caching guide
Frogman1517 - caching guide
Tad Pole #1 - caching guide
Tad Pole #2 - caching guide
Tad Pole #3 - caching guide
Webster257 - signed up but unable to attend - thank you for the effort

A special thank you to Frogman's youngest daughter. I asked his oldest daughter if she would mind if I brought her up front before the presentation and asked her about geocaching. Well, me being me, grabbed the youngest daughter by mistake. The look on her face was priceless. She took it in stride and did a great job explaining geocaching to the kids. All three of Frogman's children did a great job teaching and helping the other kids with caching. I was very proud of them!!!
