This is reminder of the GIS Day presentation we will be giving this Thursday October the 12th at the Government Center. So far we have four cachers that will be attending. We have 15 kids that we will take to four caches downtown after the event. If you are able and would like to volunteer to take a couple kids to the caches please send me an email. I need to know who will be attending by Wednesday to have you name placed on the list.

Oxbow has donated the GPSs so each child will have their own GPS. The route will start at the cache located at the Springer, then to the cache at the Welcome Center, then to Pemberton house and the last cache is a temporary container at the Government Center.

Following is a copy of the agenda. Dress is business causal - no jeans please. From what I understand there will be a lot of city officials so we want to put our best foot forward.

If you have any questions or you would like to participate please contact me by email TGBear14@aol.com or cell phone (706) 570-6247.

I would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to the guys - Phillip (JPMoncus), Ron (Cheefy), Vic (Dreamland) and Clay (MikeGolf3) - for their help today. I especially would like to thank Phillip. Originally Clay and I were going to do the presentation but work obligations didn't allow Clay to be at the event until 11:00. Phillip was kind enough to fill in at the last minute. He did a wonderful job! I think he missed his calling. He would make a good teacher!

The presentation was successful. The kid's teacher, Ms. Cook, said we did a wonderful job. She found geocaching to be very interesting. She is interested in talking with some cachers to see if together we can come up a project for their school - Arnold Magnet School. I will let everyone know if I hear from her.

The kids, 12 eight graders, had a blast finding the caches. We went to three actual caches, "Just Pretend", "Passport, Peaches & Perserves" and "It's the real thing". They found the caches on their own and signed the logs. We placed a temporary cache at the Government Center that contained buttons with our logo, the child's name above and "is an honorary member of the Chattahoochee Valley Cachers" at the bottom. The kids were excited when they found them. All we heard was "cool it has my name on it!". One young man said, "they even spell my name right." They truly were a very polite well behaved and fun group of kids.

About the buttons: I designed and ordered them from a geocacher, Honeychile (Vicky), whom I have ordered FTF and geo creed buttons from in the past. They turned out very nice. If you are interested in geo buttons check out her web-site http://justbeeme.com/bumblebuttons/. I was reimbursed by the GIS division.

Oxbow Meadows donated 10 GPS units for us to use. Amy was pleased to hear they worked great and the event was very successful. She said she is looking forward to working with us, and we are welcome to use the GPSs anytime we need them.

The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) division announced their new Interactive Maps web-site today. Take a look at it, I think you will find it very interesting
http://www.columbusga.org/engineering2/GIS.htm. Shondra said they want to try and load all the presentation today to their web-site, so keep you eyes open for that.

I'm uploading some pictures of the presentation to the yahoo group.

Thank you,
Theresa

I too had a great time. For those of you that couldn't make it, you
missed a wonderful experience. They were a great bunch of kids. Not
at all what I was expecting from a group of that age.
