While searching for some downloadable ammo can stencils, I stumbled across The Unofficial "Georgia Geocachers Association" home page. Doesn't seem like it's been updated in a while. Check out right under "Are there Geocaches in Georgia?". That page did have some links to stencils but the most useful thing I got from it was the tip to use little magnets to hold the stencil down if it's not laying perfectly flat. Brilliant solution! Not sure who the page belongs to but "thanks for the tip" to them. WakeboardLanier

Wow - who would have ever thought that there would be as many as 250 geocaches in Georgia! Pretty neat page thought for some reason I don't think it's been updated in a while...

If you really want to know (and I don't), ask mtn.man - he gave permission for the background image.

Hey phat, it was retorical. it has been out there so long with so few views it was more a humerous observation. I have pondered why someone would create a unofficial page but use the official logo. If I was mad enough to create a separate page to any organization, I don't think that I would use the official logo without defacing it!! If I wasn't mad, why would I create a separate page?? Maybe I just enjoyed the old Reader's Digest "Point to Ponder" section a little to much

I remember seeing this page back when it was created and at one time I knew who the creator was but that was quite a few brain cells ago... I do remember that whoever did it was a member of the GGA and they posted the link to it on our old EZ-Board forums. It wasn't an issue of someone being mad and you can tell that from reading the content of the page. It was created from a desire add something to the then new game of geocaching. Back then there was very little online content other than GC.com. I even created some geocaching / waypoint pages on my own site, I didn't use the GGA logo but I believe the TOS says it can be freely used by anyone for non- commercial purposes.

While it wasn't me, I know who did it.

When the GGA was in its infancy we used commercially available resources (e.g. Tripod) for the web site and another one for forums. Later we obtained our own web site and moved as much information across as we could. The old original site was designated as the Unofficial Georgia Geocachers Association home page. The logo was created in a collaborative working environment by persons who became the original steering committee members. I know who came up with the satellite in the middle of the "A" but at that time the group was operating in a consensus mode where we would work on a subject until we came up with something we all could support without concern for individual ownership of ideas. I don't recall if the SC was in place at the time or not, but the original logo was authorized for use on that page. I personally like the fact that the old site remains on the web as an artifact of those early days. You should'a been there!

The internet wayback machine is great way to look into the past. For example take a look at how the http://www.ggaonline.org/ look Sep 29, 2001 http://web.archive.org/web/200...//www.ggaonline.org/ it looks almost identical to the 'The Unofficial "Georgia Geocachers Association" home page' http://gageocaching.tripod.com/ doesn't it?

I am pretty sure it was Big Doggie (Lewis Mosely) that made that site. Funny that I knew the background image as mine as soon as I saw it. By the way, IIRC, he did that as an initial template. It was put up at the new URL we got until LoCache did the newer site design some time later.

I remember voting on the logo design and were presented with options for a URL (which we voted on as well) at fort yargo that first year after a poisonous plant presentation and that guy from the georgia state parks... which I believe (actually i know) was August 2001 (GC11A9). ----------------------- Quality Over Quantity!!! -----------------------

At first, I was thinking that someone else put that page together (under slightly different circumstances) but now that you mention it, I think it WAS Lewis. Ya know despite the way that everything played itself out, he really did do a lot to help get the GGA's ball a'rolling. If I'm not mistaken, he was also the one that started the EZ-Board forums 'cuz I remember him telling everyone about it at one of the early meetings. I really wish we hadn't lost the content of those early forums. Reading through those pages you could really see the excitement and energy we had for this new thing and how we bonded as a group. Not only that but the learning curve we all went through as well. There was so many questions and everyone was all too happy to help each other.

I'm sorry. I know it's wrong. But that made me do a spit-take and giggle outloud. As for all the other stuff you said... You are so Right On. That was a very special time. Building something from the ground up and coming together as a group, sparking new ideas, people stepping up to be a part one way or another.... As for Lewis - yes he did do a lot to help push that ball. He had a lot of good ideas, but because of his manner of "delivery" they got lost in the "discussion". - Like I've never experienced that issue. I personally have to say that starting around may of last year, the GGA has come the closest it's been to returning to the spirit of those early days. Though it's not as close-knit as it was. Back then there were so few of us, that you could actually say you knew everyone. ----------------------- Quality Over Quantity!!! -----------------------

There are several but that is one of them. From them it is pretty obvious that it was BigDoggie (Lewis Mosely) that created the site gageocaching.tripod.com.
