Yes! the smashed pennies can tarnish, but so can any coins left in the cup tray( husband does it quite offten). We have left several in ziplock bags as trade items, so far so good.

Not really, no more than the penny they were made of, if you keep them in a reasonably dry place they will stay the same indefinitely. But the kind of penny you smashed can make a big difference in durability. Pennies minted prior to 1983 were made of copper, and are very durable and corrosion resistant. Pennies made after 1983 are copper plated zinc, and are much less durable, and will corrode quickly.

Mtn-man pointed to one particular coin at the following site in a previous post. However, if you back up one level you get to see a variety of coin designs. I didn't realize that until today. I thought some others may have missed also, so here's the link:

http://www.geocities.com/team_fisur/geocoins/

They've got some pretty cool looking coins. I wish some of them would find there way to Georgia. I'd like to check them out up close and in person.

I brought back one of the Conejo Cachers coins from LA. It was last seen in a cache in Blairsville. Very nice design!

Trez' pix doesn't do it justice. Here is the actual shot (not an online proof). Awesome coin.
Glad I have mine now, it'll be a collectors item soon. Thanx T3!

Your wish is my command. I don't think T3 will mind, since he 'borrowed' my original shot for his avatar.

GC wanted up to $1.25 per coin to issue tracking numbers. I realize this pays for the web page and server time. We TRAM,Team PEZ, Team Happyspider, Thorny1 and myself thought that more people would keep the coins in a collection or pass them to other cachers. We didn't feel it was worth the extra cost for tracking. As Allen stated you could always attach a TB tag.
