I am just posting a notice in hopes that all that have been involved or the ones thinking about getting involved, that have not received my e-mail concerning the every growing popularity of the on the side activity on personal wagering on FTF's. We just recently had an issue that made one individual very angry who may have been thinking that it was an assault against him. In light of this, I ask that all who are involved to refrain from posting any such activity in any of their cache log posting. This activity from now on should and will be kept in a non public forum other than Geocaching. Some of us out here are just far too sensitive. Posting messages in a text form lacks the capability of transmitting emotions and other parties might take a comment in the wrong way.

I'm glad to see this post. While not taking sides, I will say that I had a conversation with another cacher today about the said incident and indicated that side bets should perhaps be kept out of the public forum, as some folks do not (for one reason or another) wish to be a party to the activity. I appreciate seeing this post, but would disagree that the individual in question was "far too sensitive" about the matter. He was unwittingly the "topic" and I can see how he was offended by the general activity surrounding the cache hunt, as well as the logs. I know the cacher that was offended and, while I am not intending to interpret his feelings, know him to be thoughtful and sensible, so his reaction was not off the cuff in any way.

Let's just all play nice and respect each other's sensitivities and space. It sounds like that is the future intent here - so I'm happy at least, as I have put some thought into this lately - especially when it became so personal and public. I know all of you guys and I think it would help if a couple of you weren't so private - it's hard to understand folks you only talk to through logs and e-mails. I know that will probably not happen, and that's fine because that is your choice, but it does impact caching relationships. You can't expect someone who doesn't really know you to understand you. I hope all of you involved will trust me when I say that you all are very nice folks from what I can tell - you just have different agendas. Just respect each other - which sounds like the intent and enjoy the game - whatever that is for you.

I would like to clarify one thing from my original post. When I wrote "Some of us out here are just far too sensitive", I was not referring specifically to the the cacher in said topic. Again, I do quote, "Posting messages in a text form lacks the capability of transmitting emotions and other parties might take a comment in the wrong way."

I love, in a platonic way, everyone of you. Every one that I have met via e-mail and the few of you that have met me personally are all great people. This world definitely needs more of you. If you question what platonic love is, go to webster.com.

Carlmoore asked me to post this since he does not have an account on this forum.

From carlmoore01

It has been noted that some people take offense that I do not log my cache finds. I have seen that there are other cachers that are doing the same thing I am. I do not know what their intent is, but I do this primarily to keep the competition out of my game. I can see why some of you can not respect this, but that is just how I am. I made a mistake and all I can say is that I am sorry for that. Please do not hate me for it. I am only a person with the same feelings a you. I should have never made myself known and never should have showed my name in public. Again I am very sorry.

Happy caching everyone, and I wish you the best in your future hunts.

Carl

What the Heck???

What are you people talking about? I think a few details would be nice.

If what I gather from what is written happened is that there are people out there running to get FTF and there is a running bet on who it's going to be. Aaaand they wrote it in a public forum placing it and then bragging about it...

Do I have that correct?

Really, I can say this as a local bystander - nobody has missed anything except for a bunch of hard feelings. All is well now though, I hope........

Pete Rose loved baseball, I'm sure it was platonic too.

That's ok. I got filled in. It's a big bunch of nothing.

You know it's gotta be if even I don't riled up over it.

Well it did matter to the people involved - either directly or indirectly. The important thing is that it appears settled for now. Nothing for you to be riled up about in the least anyway.

I discussed this situation with the cache owner and she was pretty upset over it and that it might scare some cachers from going to the cache and she said she felt like "Dear Abby"

I may be wrong, but I'm not far from it !

hehe ... I got a chuckle out of this thread. I have no idea what it is about (and don't care to). When I first started caching, I went after a few FTF's (and even beat the infamous ~Erik to a Panther Creek Cache), but then I figured out the real reason I geocache - and it ain't about FTFs. Now I usually wait until some 'FTF Wannabe' verifies that a new cache is actually at the posted coords. Then I go look for it.
To each his own.
Happy, Happy, Happy.
Safe cachin...

I still remember that one. I think the smell of your cigar burned it into my little gray cells. You were walking out as I was walking in. Some people were camped near the cache and I was worried about being spotted as I hunted it.

Funny how some caches just stick in your mind.

Yeah, I can remember driving across the state to find a newly listed cache and finding our friend Donovan already there, or hiking to the cache together. It's been a long, long time since I cared about being FTF. Now it's all about the journey.

Nope. No knuckle crackin' here.

I remember those days too erik... the rest of us would sit back and wait to see who would get to the cache first - erik or Donovan. Then once they had found it the rest of us would give it a go. I don't ever remember bolting out the door to get there first... ever. I do remember sometimes getting the happy surprise of being First to sign a log book, but not breaking my arm patting myself on the back at being FTF. But to each their own.

It's just a game people. A game with very loose guidelines that allows Everyone to play by their own rules. Each person defines why and how they cache. Doing so also defines what they will get out of it. As these definitions change so do the aspects of the game. We all get caught up in the "wrong" ways some people cache and get so bent out of shape or our feelings get hurt. And you know what I say to that... GET OVER IT. It is a big waste of time worrying about what others are doing and how they're caching. If people do things you don't like on your cache page...delete it and move on. Deal with the things you can control and let go the things you can't.

I have remembered why I geocache and am getting my geo-joy back. I'm really having fun again. I suggest those who were affected by whatever trauma they believe they incurred through this "Geo-Gambling watergate" do the same.

happy, happy. Joy, Joy.

Heck I can remember when a Lacy would also be a FTF to caches, heck one that I remember is the one at Macedonia Point (fallacissimus stipes) where me and dad (Allen) beat Erik there and got the prize that was left from him Evil King Though that was back when I was able to get out more than I do now, but I do still go out and enjoy the ones that I find, even if I am not FTF on it. I go to enjoy it, then heck with what others want to do.
