Explosive growth of our hobby!

In preparing the Event Cache listing for our June meeting, I noticed some interesting facts.

The first geocache in Georgia is the cache now known as "Beaver Cache" by Jim Gooch. This cache was placed 6/3/2000 and is still an active cache:

Cache ID 29

The first GGA meeting was held on 6/9/2001:

Cache ID 2329

The June 2002 FIRST ANNIVERSARY meeting of the GGA is scheduled for 6/8/2002:

Cache ID 21219

Now, notice the ID number at the end of the above links. In the first year of geocaching, the ID numbers went from 1 to about 2,000. In other words, about 2,000 caches were placed in the first year.

In the second year of geocaching, the ID numbers went from about 2,000 to about 22,000. In other words, about 20,000 caches were placed in the second year.

Is that GROWTH or what!?!?!?

That's some serious growth. Speaking of growth, I just found my 30th cache since starting on March 2, 2002. Lots of quickies after work. llh

Quickies after work indeed!

When I was your age, in the stone age of geocaching, I had to drive across the state to find a cache! You don't know how good you young'uns have it.

Whoops, I forgot I wasn't lecturing my kids......

A mind is a terrible thing to loose.

You know you're getting old when a "quickie" means an easy cache hunt.
