It seems the National Park Service has shifted their thinking some regarding geocaching. I think this is a good thing. While there are some misconceptions in there, the document on the whole is very interesting and promising. That there are now people with titles like "NPS GPS Program Coordinator" is very cool. Groundspeak has said in this topic in the GC Forums that they may be contacting the NPS regarding some of the misconceptions in the policy.
If the lady that runs the CRNRA area is back yet, maybe she will be more receptive since she has been pointing to the "no abandoned property" policy. She has been gone. The supervisor of Kennesaw has been running the CRNRA for a little while.

I am not too optimistic ... yet. Reading their new policy, it seems the NPS still thinks geocaches are buried. Gosh, have these people even bothered to read the geocaching.com guidelines? I think the term "federal bureaucracy" still applies here, with all the negative connotations that deserves. But its a start.
