Replicated from the GGA EZBoard:
Da Rebel Super Poster (4/6/02 11:24:40 pm) Geonicks - How come you picked that one? I've been wondering about why folks have the Geonicks they use. For me, I started out using the Geonick "Querido" because that's what an ex-girlfriend used to call me; it means "dear one" in Spanish. Problem was it was fairly unpronouceable and she is an ex, after all. I just recently switched to Da Rebel. While doing genealogical research I found two Revolutionary War soldiers and one Confederate in the family tree. So, Da Rebel works great and I like it! So, why'd you pick the one you use? Why'd I pick erik88L-R? Probably 'cause I was forced by geocaching.com to come up with something other than "erik" which was already taken! I have a Land-Rover 88 (the number refers to it's wheelbase in inches) and had used erik88L-R as an alias on E-Bay to bid on used Land-Rover parts, so that popped into my mind as a geonick to use for the signup process. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AJLacy Awe-Inspiring Poster (4/7/02 7:43:05 am) Re: Geonicks - How come you picked that one? For geocaching.com I picked AllenLacy because it is my name, I tried to get AllenLacy here on Ezboard but it was already TAKEN so I used AJLacy. (hee hee) Could be worse... there could be 2 slayerettes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Johnnielacy Registered Geocacher (4/7/02 8:59:19 am) Re: Geonicks - How come you picked that one? Because thats my name. I'm one of those less than creative people who just uses his initials and last name... T. J. Bowers = tjbowers. Like Da Rebel, I could have used anyone of the hundreds of nicknames ex-girl friends have given me but we're trying to keep this a family forum and obscenities are frowned upon. ;-) tjb "It's got to be the going, not the getting there, that's good" --Harry Chapin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gossamyrrh Magnificent Poster (4/7/02 10:39:35 pm) Re: Geonicks - How come you picked that one? (sigh) (deep breath) I was orginally Gossamer, not in reference to delicate, fine things or butterfly wings, but the Warner Brother's big, red-haired cartoon monster. "Gossamer" has already been snagged a thousand times over, so I got creative and came up with Gossamyrrh. When I was active on undernet IRC, it was Gossamyrh, as undernet only allows 10 characters for your nickname. Thankfully, I grew out of IRC. I just bumped the other thread that talked about trail names back to the top because there is some good stuff there, too. Here is my story (from the other one), and I am sticking to it!!!!! ----------------------------------------- As you all know now, I have been hiking for some time. I have done a good bit of off-trail hiking and love to see how well I can read maps to see where I am. I like to explore those hard to reach out of the way areas, some of which are now off limits! (Hmm, a dot on the map... I wonder what was there!). When I signed up with mindspring and got to pick some email accounts, I picked one with my real name. I also got a second one and hacked around with some "mtn" variations. I got the mtn-man address, and built one of my personal web sites around it. When I saw Geocaching, I registered the name quickly before I even found a cache so I could get it first. Someone beat me to mtnman on the EZBoard, so I put a space where the dash is. As for a trail name... my two brothers and I were branded "The Tabasco Brothers" for the one thing that is always in our pack, and the Cajun ancestry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Da Rebel Super Poster (4/7/02 11:45:08 pm) Re: Geonicks - How come you picked that one? Thanks, Mtn Man, for the bump. Goss, is this the one? I thought the big red monster was Peggy Bundy! Here is my answer, pasted from the other forum - I made my nick up the day I heard of Geocaching and signed up....I felt I needed a nickname involving *cache* and the first thing that popped to mind was "Locash" which is actually the name of a city from the movie CB4. It is supposed to be a take off on Compton. None of this has anything to do with Geocaching, but I tweaked it to LoCache and since I love that movie, I figured it was fine. I have ended up liking the name a lot and it is unique so it has stuck. In retrospect, I would probably have chosen Geotrex, but someone beat me to it. Geo * Straight outta LoCash, a crazy Mutha F***** named Gusto! *-----see the movie for the rest of the lyric...it isn't suitable for printing here! ;-) The movie, for those of you who don't know, is a rap version of Spinal Tap. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ fisherKings Registered Geocacher (4/8/02 2:24:58 pm) geonicks We wanted to use our last name somehow...King. Then there was this old mythology guy called the good fisherking. He was obsessed with looking for the Holy Grail. We thought it fit somehow. fisherKings. searching. King. We have our individual names based on the fish side of the name to hopefully tie it all in. Mine Sushi...because I am half-Japanese (Mom's side) and half-Kentucky white boy (Dad's side). I have been affectionately called a JapaBilly. My wife..Rainbow..because of the prettiness of it all. Shark..our now four-yr-old son...cause that is what he wanted to be called being a wild 4yr-old. Guppy...our littlest cacher now at 13 months old...cause she is the littlest. Robert was taken and did not want to post my last name. I used rlacy here cause I used to be that on geocaching and i signed up here before i changed mine to Robert L on geocaching. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ the mtn man and puppymonster (4/8/02 11:40:24 pm) Re: Geonicks - How come you picked that one? ...JapaBilly... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ nasty george Unregistered User (4/9/02 2:58:11 pm) geonicks-how come you picked that one. I hope this doesn't dissappoint anyone who pictures Nasty George as a dirty bearded guy tromping thru the tulips with no knowledge of personal hygiene. That is a mnemonic for my ham radio call KN4NG. It is the last two characters; the first two are related to the date you got your call; the numeral is your region and the last two are random. It has been with me for a while now and my kids call me "Nasty" and not "Dad". (especially while I am chowing down on some BobbyQ and into some Blues. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ErnieB Super Poster (4/9/02 6:11:13 pm) Re: geonicks-how come you picked that one. I was in a hurry so I just went with what was natural. ErnieB. Firstname.LastInitial In other places, I'm known as Pointyhead. Being an avionics technician in the USAF for 21 years, I got that moniker from a particular Chief Master Sergeant, who had a penchant for calling Avionics troops "pointyheads", since the tool we mainly used was phillips-head screwdrivers. Crew chiefs and some of the more manual systems on the planes primarily used the common screwdrivers, and thus got the label -"Flatheads". On the whole, I like mine better! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AllenLacy Registered Geocacher (4/19/02 9:16:57 am) Re: Geonicks - How come you picked that one? quote:Well the "other" one must of given it up, because I have it now! |

"LostNfound"
The name sort of sums up the whole wandering through the woods theme for me. With compass, map and GPS in hand it just seemed fun to be able to "lose myself" out on the trail and then find something of value . . . a beautiful vista, a trickling brook or a funny looking ammo box hidden under some logs. |
