EasyGPS?

I seem to have encountered a bit of a glitch in downloading waypoints for the EasyGPS software. Instead of the usual datafile, all I can download are html copies of the website. Anyone else ever run into this problem?

Re: EasyGPS?

I just tried, and it worked fine.

The whole site was S-L-O-W, maybe it was having some problems when you tried.

Re: EasyGPS?

Nope...that isn't it either. When I try to download, instead of getting a .loc file, I get an html file that is a copy of the cache details. I even tried re-downloading EasyGPS but still get the same problem.

Re: EasyGPS?

Are you doing a File/Save to save the file? If so, don't.

Just left mouse click on the little icon relating to the loc file and you should get a window asking if you want to open the file or save it. Save it usually works. In fact, I save it using the GC number of the cache, otherwise it defaults to a generic name.

Re: EasyGPS?

Da Rebel is right, you left-click on the link. I usually choose OPEN THE FILE rather than saving it. Windoze knows by the file type to pass it to EasyGPS.

Did downloading the coords to EasyGPS work before and then stopped, or did it never work?

Re: EasyGPS?

Six of one, half a dozen of another.

Call me paranoid, but I do a "save" then scan the resulting file for viruses before opening it.

Am interested in the answer to Big Dog's question, however.

Re: EasyGPS?

Nope. It used to work before. Now it doesn't. I rightclick, it gives me the download option, but the only thing it allows me to download is a "cachedetails.htm" file.

Lets think this through. If it is working for everyone else, then it must be somethign either with my account or my computer. I do not seem to have trouble DL any other files, so I suspect it is my account or some specific setting that is only used when DL from this particular source. Any other ideas?

Re: EasyGPS?

Saw your other post.

Are you logged in to Geocaching.com when you try this? That could make a diff.

Re: EasyGPS?

Yep. Logged in and all. How irritating!
Its not a crucial thing as I don't use waypoints very often, but it buggs me all the same and I want to fix it.

Weird

Tell ya what, send me an email, and I'll send you my phone number. Maybe we can walk through it.

Re: Weird

Well we got it working. Just in case someone else runs across the same problem, here is the solution:

I am unable to download directly to my drive. Instead I have to open the file from the source. The weird part is that I have to select this option 3 times over before it actually does it, then I can manually save the .loc file.

Thanks to Da Rebel and Jeremy for helping out!
