Just thought that i would throw out the discussion that a Cacher from Vegas will be visiting Atlanta in October and was wondering if there were any caches in particular that I should make sure and do. I will be staying in Dunwoody area near the Country Club and then will be downtown for a convention on the 10th. Thank you for any assistance and recommendations. Also if there were anyone available to cache with, a little local knowledge never hurts....

I checked yesterday and saw that there were three caches within a mile of Dunwoody CC, so I swung by after work and hit them all. GCHFR7 is a very clever small cache – well worth hunting, but in a very public area. GCKZWX is a fairly easy micro, and GCZW4H is a coffee can in a small patch of woods. They are all within walking distance of each other, but the area is not all that pedestrian friendly.

Depending on what time you arrive on the 6th, you could come to the GeocoinFest Multi Event

Depending on where your conference is downtown, there are several in Centennial Olympic Park:
GCZCFC GCZFT3 GC13TZ3 GCGJ2N GCHG2K 3 are fun micros (fun because these are muggle heavy areas) and the other 2 are virtuals. |

There are a number of good Dunwoody caches. In terms of cache concentrations, at the Dunwoody Nature Center (Roberts Drive, near Austin Elementary) are Present in Nature (GCGJH3) and GPS The Game (GC14WN3).
Brook Run Park(located at the corner of North Peachtree Rd. and Peeler Rd.), has Children's Adventure Garden (GCR6CX), Old MacDonald Had A Farm (GCKW3P), Brook Run Backwoods (GCC0C2)and Brook Run Boardwalk (GCJJMG). Not far from Dunwoody is Murphy Candler Park, which has Dawson's Creek (GCJ56E), Sports City(GCGVWB) and Fishing For a Cache (GCY06D). Of these caches, all are good and all are regular caches except Brookrun Boardwalk and Fishing for a Cache, which are micros. If evil micros are your thing, there are several in the area: Harry Houdini: The Metamorphosis (GCMFXD), That's Not Fair (GCH6AH) and Nailed on the 7th (GCKE0E). Those last two are particularly evil. A couple of other good caches in the Dunwoody area are Can't Get Der from Here (GCKCFZ) and Educated Guess (GCK4HE). Don't try to do Undaunted Courage (GCJTG1) as the final stage is a long way off. The same goes for Ol' Gene (GCK0H2), whose first stage is downtown. Though it is in neither Dunwoody nor downtown, but in Buckhead, halfway in between, The Buckhead Dragon (GC1875) is a classic cache that is fun due to its description. It uses a letterbox technique in that you follow the description instructions more than follow your GPS. Still it is worth a side trip. |
